It's the first day of senior year!! Lucas and Haley are working on their predictions for the year. I love this idea of predicting how you think the school year will turn out and what you want to happen.

Poor Haley is being stared at and harassed by all the girls at school. This whole thing really sucks. Barely anyone knew her before she started dating Nathan and even after they were married she still just kept to her small group of friends so it's just mean that all these girls are treating her like that. And Nathan is still barely speaking to her which doesn't make her feel any better. I hate the idea of them getting a divorce. They belong together!!

We learn that Ellie was buying drugs because she has cancer. Dan comes after Lucas when he thinks he tried to kill him in the fire and chokes him until Lucas admits that he was there, but not to kill him. Lucas saved him from the fire. Dan really is just awful. Not only did he choke is own kid he called him weak for saving him.

And the other big storyline in this episode is Dan trying to get Whitey replaced as coach. He has no reason to do this other then to get back at Whitey for Nathan going to High Flyers and pretty much because he hates Whitey. But, thankfully this was one time when Dan Scott didn't get his way. Karen stepped up and spoke on Whitey's behalf and basically saved the day!! Whitey gets to stay, but he is going to retire at the end of the season!

I loved the end with Nathan and Haley. It's so simple and sweet and it works. Nathan cares about Haley! He hates to see her hurting and that simple move of placing his hand on her back as they walk to class is so sweet. I loved it!!moreless

It seems everyone in Tree Hill has something shocking to share: Nathan tells Haley he might want a divorce, Lucas admits to Dan that he saved his life, and Peyton finds out a secret Ellie's been keeping. Meanwhile, Dan continues to search for the identity of his would-be murderer, and Whitey finds his job security in jeopardy. Hehe, Whitey. "Well, well. Avril Lavigne. What can I do for you?" I liked that Whitey did the detention thing for Haley and Nathan, but I usually can't stand Whitey. I liked Brooke's hair during the scrunchy conversation. It was a really good episode. :)moreless
  • Lucas' secret for Dan

    10
After Larry talks to Karen, he decides that Peyton should talk to Ellie. Ellie tells Lucas that she has cancer, hence the buying of the drugs, but for medicinal purposes. Haley's first day at school isn't well as Nathan ignores her and people ridicule her. Mouth starts his own podcast. Dan wants to replace Whitey, but at the board meeting, Karen's influential speech saves Whitey. Nathan wants to get a divorce from Haley, but they have to live seperately for a year first. Lucas and Brooke seem to be playing hard-to-get with each other. Peyton starts her own podcast series. Lucas reveals to Dan that he was at the scene of the fire, but he saved his life instead of trying to take it like Dan suspects. Haley wants her and Nathan to get back together. Brooke gets a job. Whitey gives Mouth some advice on losing someone you love.

This was a great episode! Lucas has such a good heart. I can't believe he saved Dan after all Dan's done to him and everyone else. Lucas is really really kind-hearted. I really don't want Nathan and Haley to split up. The scene where Peyton feels that her privacy was invaded by Ellie and Larry was so sad. I really felt bad for her. This episode gets a 10 out of 10 from me!moreless
  • More is revealed about the fire at the dealership.

    10
Its back to school. Dan tries to get Whitey fired but Karen stands up to the board members for Whitey and thus he's still Coach. Elliot reveals to Lucas that she takes drugs because she has cancer. Peyton's dad tries to get Elliot in Peyton's life. Dan accuses Lucas of starting the fire at the dealership. Nathan considers gettiing a divorce, while Haley still belives their marriage can work and that things will get better. Peyton's tells Dan that Lucas was the one who saved him from the fire, not the one who started it. Whitey gives Mouth a Ravens exclusive saying that at the end of the season he will retire as coach whether they win or lose.moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (9)

    • Goof: When Lucas and Haley are first walking into school, Lucas' hair is normal. When he sees Brooke at her locker, it is noticeably longer, but later, it is normal again.

    • According to Brooke's unsent letters, Lucas' address is:

      1829 Burnette Drive
      Tree Hill, NC 09182

    • This is the first episode with Mouth and his podcast.

    • Goof: Haley's locker is next to Nathan's whose is next to Lucas because it's in alphabetical order, except that isn't alphabetical order. Scott, Lucas should actually come before Scott, Nathan. Therefore the real locker numbers should be 141 Scott, Haley James; 142 Scott, Lucas; 143 Scott, Nathan.

    • This episode reveals what exactly happened between Mouth and Erica. Erica left Mouth for a surfer.

    • This is the first episode of Peyton and her Podcasts.

    • Spoiler alert!:
This episode reveals part of what happened in the fire. We find out that Lucas did not light the fire, but that he saved Dan's life by dragging him out of the burning dealership.

    • Spoiler alert!:
In this episode, we first see the box full of letters that Brooke has written, but not given, to Lucas.

    • Haley's prediction for her senior year is "Nathan and I will be together again."

  • QUOTES (23)

    • Peyton: (Making her podcast) My dad said I should talk to someone, so I'm talking to you. All of you. Where do I begin. Umm, well, I guess, until a few days ago I thought my mom was my mom and my dad was my dad...

    • (At the school board meeting).
Dan: To the school board, concerned parents, Mr. Mayor, I think Coach Durham's record speaks for itself. He's never won a state title. In fact, the closest he ever came were those years myself and my sons were on the team. Now let's face it, Whitey's running out of my DNA. (Crowd laughs). This is Nathan's final year at Tree Hill, and a lot of the other boys too. We may not have another chance like this for decades. Now I love Whitey, he's an institution in this town. But this is bigger than just one man. This is about civic pride. This is about driving into Tree Hill in the middle of the night, and seeing your headlights splash that sign, "Welcome to Tree Hill, Home of the Ravens, North Carolina State Basketball Champions." It gives me chills just thinking about it. Now, our kids deserve to have that feeling too. Hell, so does all of Tree Hill. Now if we make the change by replacing Coach Durham, we can get there, this year. I honestly believe that. Thank you.
Mayor: Well, thank you Mr Scott. Time to call this to a vote.
Karen: (Stands up in the audience). I would like to say something. Dan: (Standing up). Ah, Mayor Mullins, Ms Roe's not a member of the school board, matter of fact, I don't think I've ever seen her at a meeting before. I object.
Mayor: Well this is not a court of law, Dan. We go by my rules. Sit down. Please go ahead Ms Roe.
Karen: (Stands up to the podium.) Thank you. Most of you know me, I am Lucas Scott's mom, I run a cafe down town, and Lucas joined the Raven's last year. What you don't know, is that I was against it. Whitey knew that, but he recruited him anyway. Umm, I was against it, for good reason, because I have seen what this game can turn people into, and I was worried that would happen to my son. What I didn't realise, is how what Whitey teaches these boys goes beyond the simple game. I have seen his influence in my own son beyond the X's and the O's, and so have all the other parents in this room. Our boys are becoming men. And I cannot put that into statistics, it may not translate into championships, but if you put too much focus on those things, in the end all you're gonna end up with is a sad bunch of boys who never learn to leave the game behind. Unlike Dan Scott, I don't believe that our son's deserve anything, you get what you earn. But Coach Durham, he deserves better. He's already earned it.

    • Mouth: (Into his mic) Just behind these doors Coach Durham's fate is being decided, as we speak. The tension is palpable. The only audible sounds are the heartbeats of this Raven's team beating in unison for it's beloved coach. My heart would be beating too, but it's been ripped out and stomped on by one Erica Marsh.

    • Brooke: Sometimes people play hard to get because they need to know the other person's feelings are real.

    • Mouth: (Into his mic). Star forward, Nathan Scott, and wife Haley, face-to-face, how will her return affect his game? Will it destroy his average like Erica Marsh threatens to destroy this reporter's GPA.

    • (Dan walks up to Lucas playing ball at the River Court)
      Lucas: Can I help you?
Dan: Taking a walk. Seeing as how I've been doing a lot of that lately.
Lucas: How about taking a hike? Done that lately?
Dan: Did I ever tell you about the dog I found in this park? I took him into my home and gave him the best of everything. Some might say I even spoiled him. And then one day, he bit me.
      Lucas: Smart dog.
Dan: Point is, that dog never bit me again... I get why you come out here. The fresh air, solitude... gives one clarity. That's important. Something I've been trying to grasp at all summer, but it just kept slipping through my fingers. Until I saw you the other night at the beach, at the bonfire. I know it was you Lucas.
Lucas: I don't know what you're talking about.
Dan: I saw you at the dealership that night. You think I wouldn't remember... Careful now. Don't wanna get that heart rate up, especially now you've stopped taking your meds. Be a shame if you collapsed right here on the court, and no one to call an ambulance.
Lucas: Thanks for your concern... Dad.
Dan: I didn't raise you, so, maybe you didn't get the lesson, but if you're going to start something, you sure as hell better finish it.
Lucas: I'm not playing this game anymore.
Dan sees Mouth, Fergie and Junk walking towards them.
Dan: Good talk son, we'll finish it soon.

    • Ellie: Lucas...
      Lucas: What do you want?
      Ellie: I need your help.
Lucas: Sorry, I'm fresh out of heroin. Try the park.
Ellie: Wait, Lucas. You did see me buying drugs. But it was for medical reasons.
Lucas: Let me guess you're going blind.
Ellie: Actually, no. I have cancer. I didn't want Peyton to know. Marijuana helps with the nausea.
      Lucas: How far along?
      Ellie: Far enough.
      Lucas: I'm sorry.
Ellie: I came back here cos I needed to know that Peyton was okay. That she'd be okay.
Lucas: She deserves to know. You have to tell her.
Ellie: I know. But I want her to get to know me first, on her own terms. Not because she feels sorry for me. I thought, maybe, you could tell her you made a mistake. Encourage her to give me another chance.

    • Whitey: Oh no, sometimes I wish I had gone blind.
Dan: Easy old-timer, I just came by to congratulate you on your 400th year at Tree Hill High.
Whitey: (Fake laughs). I see, Nathan ranked nationally, 10 spots ahead of you, if memory serves.
Dan: Well it would have been more if they had gone off last year's record instead of his weak play at that damn camp.
Whitey: Does anything ever make you happy, Danny?
Dan: Actually yeah. It's the agenda for this month's school board meeting. Look at item number 3. I put it in 24 point font so you could read it.
      Whitey: "Replace Whitey Durham".
Dan: It's nothing personal. Oh wait a minute, who am I kidding, of course it's personal.
Whitey: You know, it's a shame you didn't burn up along with your dealership, but of course Dan Scott can survive anything, can't he. Like a cockroach. (He lights a lighter and Dan backs away). What's the matter Danny? I'm just lighting a candle. Good for the feng shui. You look a little skittish. I thought fire was supposed to be Satan's friend.
Dan: It is. If you see Lucas, that is if you are still able to, tell him I'd like to speak to him.

    • Mouth: We're here with number 23, Nathan Scott. Nate, what's your prediction for this Raven's team? Is this the year that you'll finally claim that elusive championship trophy, or will it once again end up in the arms of someone else, someone more popular, better looking, possibly a surfer. Leaving you empty and angry with only that final buzzer of regret, ringing in your ears.

    • (Lucas and Peyton walk into the deserted gym)
Peyton: Been a while since we've been in here, huh?
Lucas: I'm in here every night. In my mind, anyway.
Peyton: (teasingly) You're playing the shot you missed. The shot that ended our season; the shot you probably made, what, like a thousand times.
      Lucas: (resigned tone)Ok!
Peyton: So, what so you have to tell me?
      Lucas: How'd you know?
Peyton: Well, I figured you either brought me in here to talk, to make out, or to kill me. And since we're not gonna make out… I guess its talk or die, right?(Lucas smiles) Is it bad?
      Lucas: Yeah.
Peyton: Let me guess, I've got three moms.
Lucas: Ellie was buying marijuana… but not for the reasons you think. She's sick. She has cancer, Peyton.
Peyton: She told you that? (Lucas nods) Come on, Luke, that's just another one of her lies.
Lucas: I don't think so. I think she was afraid that if you knew the truth… you'd feel obligated, or some way. You know, then it would change things between you for the wrong reasons.
Peyton: Kinda like… your little secret about Dan and the fire.

    • Nathan: Well, how'd you deal with it when we first broke up? Besides from immediately trying to hook up with Lucas. (Peyton smacks him. Nathan laughs) No, seriously, I mean… how did you deal with having to see each other every day?
Peyton: Really, the only thing I missed was skipping algebra and making out in my car. As much as I loathed kissing you, algebra was worse.

    • (Lucas and Haley on their golf course on the roof of the café reading their predictions for the previous school year spanning seasons 1 and 2)
      Haley: You first.
Lucas: 'This year, I'm going to kiss a boy'.
Haley: That's mine! It's from seventh grade!
Lucas: Well, it finally happened for you then.
Haley: Shut up! What about you? 'This year I'll talk to Peyton Sawyer'
      Lucas: It doesn't say that!
Haley: It does! Look at it.

    • (sees Haley standing by the door)
Nathan: Come on we'll be late for class. (puts his hand on her back while they walk to class)

    • Haley: Oh, do you have any idea how annoying it is to only go to your locker once a day? I'm gonna need a good chiropractor.
Brooke: Let's talk about something happy. Like how we're gonna get evicted if we don't find money for rent.
Haley: Wait a minute; I thought your parents sent you money.
Brooke: Well, it barely covered my back-to-school wardrobe.
Haley: You spent your rent money on clothes?
Brooke: I can't come to school naked! It wouldn't be very presidential. Although I suppose I would never have to worry about re-election.
Haley: Oh my god, it's so good that you're not treasurer.

    • Haley: I'm usually one of those people who likes the first day of school. You know, new pens; new book; new backpack.
      Brooke: A nerd.
      Haley: Exactly!

    • Lucas: (voice over) Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote: 'All are architects of fate so look not mournfully into the past. It comes not back again.'

    • (Haley and Lucas find out the lockers are put in alphabetical order)
Nathan: (To Haley) You should've used your stage name.

    • (Haley is talking to Brooke)
Haley: ... And everybody here is giving me the "zoo treatment" except for Nathan, who of course, won't barely look at me.
Peyton: You could always run away and join a rock tour. Oh wait... you already did that!

    • Haley: Hey coach.
Whitey: Well, well. Avril Lavigne. What can I do for you?
Haley: I wanted to talk to you about Nathan. I'm not exactly his favorite person right now.
Whitey: And you'd like me to talk to him.
Haley: I was hoping... He really listens to you.
Whitey: Listen girly. I'm a basketball coach, not Dr. Phil. Don't have time for anyone else's problems right now, got plenty of my own.
      Haley: I understand -
Whitey: Besides that, I should be happy that my star player's focusing on the game rather than on his love life. We've got a championship game to win this year. Here.
      Haley: What's this?
Whitey: It's called a detention slip.
      Haley: Detention for what?
Whitey: Last time I checked, this was the boys' locker room.

    • Whitey: (to Nathan and Haley) Today we're gonna allow talking. I believe you two have some catching up to do.

    • Nathan: Did you really knock out Sue Garber's front teeth?
Haley: What? Where did you hear that?
      Nathan: It's all over school.
Haley: Great. Add "bully" to my resume. You know, I played for some tough crowds on the road; nothing compares to the hostility I feel walking down that hall. What did I even do to make those girls hate me anyway? They don't even know me.
Nathan: It's high school, you don't need a reason. Try missing the winning shot at a home game, you'll feel hatred at a whole new level.
Haley: Yeah. I guess I never thought of it that way. Nathan-
Nathan: I should get back to this. I don't have a tutor anymore.

    • Karen: Do you remember that day on the rivercourt when you told me that you would give anything to have her home?
Nathan: Yeah. You told me to have faith.
Karen: Faith is believing when there's nothing else you can do. But she's here now. What are you gonna do about it?
Nathan: Haley's here. Just don't know if the guy she left is ever gonna come back.

    • Nathan: Look, I've been doing some thinking about us, about what we're gonna do. I still have the annulment papers. But if we have an annulment it'll be like our marriage never happened, and that'll be a lie. We had a lot of great times together, Haley. I don't want to pretend like we didn't.
      Haley: Neither do I.
Nathan: So instead of an annulment, I looked into a divorce. The state says that we have to be separated for a year.
Haley: Wha- What are you saying?
Nathan: I'm saying I think we should see what happens between now and then.
Haley: Nathan, I love you. I know that we can work this out, and a year from now things will be good for us again.
Nathan: Maybe. Or maybe not. I guess we'll just have to see.
