Ok, I've been reading some---I'm sorry its too much to read every post---and I think we should let go of this "EPIC" business, in the long run, theres no point in debating over a word thats rarely ever used in relation to realistic couple. The only "epic" couple I see is Naley--not because I'm a fan, hardly---but because they are made so that they are inseparable, they belong to each other and no one else, and frankly I rather not associate LP with such "epic"-ness.
Anyways, heres my view on the whole IHY thing, I do believe that when a person is drunk that person is VERY likely to tell the truth BUT of course not everything is clear cut, people ALSO say dumb and irresponsible things when they are drunk because theres no thought process behind these words so sometimes its the truth and sometimes its simply nonsense.
In Lucas' case, I think it is the truth---no, I dont think he hates her, in fact I think he loves her and all that is very obvious----surely you dont write two books regarding love about a someone you hate!---because Lucas had this insane ability to take blame for his own actions this season, he---again---blamed Peyton but due to the alcohol in his system, the accusation was intensified and so you have words like "hate" and what not.
One of the reactions of a drunk person is that that person becomes very affectionate, "I LOVE you, man" and those sort of things, the "likeness" is intensified to love and we have the same thing here where blame took on a "hate" form.
I agree with whoever mentioned that the title says it all: "Hate is Safer Than Love" we know he loves Peyton but hides behind other women and now that his cover is gone, he hides behind Hate and Blame and the like. Lucas is a very mature character but when it comes to his heart, he is very much a scared little boy.
As for the whole "LP only have a friendship vibe", I cant image marrying someone who is not my FRIEND first and foremost. The most liberating thing in a relationship is knowing that when you are angry or happy, you dont have to explain because your lover can pretty much guess the reason, why? Because he/she knows you as a FRIEND. Relationships are hollow and meaningless if there is no strength of friendship, as it was mentioned above, thats why best friends fall for each other, because being attracted to someone is lust and that is shortlived, but what keeps the relationship together is companionship, if you are not friends with your lover or husband, that relationship lacks something that is the most important for ANY relationship:friendship. Leyton are good for each other due to their friendship, that is why they are so realistic, in my opinion.
