Hi everyone! I am the brand new editor of the One Tree Hill guide and I am excited to get to know all of you. I haven't been extremely active on this board, but I do plan to moderate the forums now that I am here. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you and hope that I can do as good of a job as the previous editors. Please use this thread to ask questions and make suggestions - I will try to take everyone's wants into account but also remember its impossible to make everyone happy. Also, please read the forum rules as well as my submission guidelines before submitting.

Please check this thread every so often as this list is not complete and may be added to at any time. Also, please feel free to ask questions, but note that these rules are not up for debate.

    SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

These are the OFFICIAL submission guidelines for all my guides, as written by Grailwolf and amended by me.

    Submission guidelines for my guides

The purpose of this document is to supplement the site guidelines with my own rules and preferences, and to further illustrate issues which are in the guidelines, but are common reasons for rejections nonetheless. If you are uncertain about whether a particular submission will be accepted, read the following and then send me a PM if you are still unclear.

    Use correct (American) English:

I hold my guides to the same standards as a printed work such as a book or newspaper. Any entry must be written with correct grammar, spelling, capitalization, and punctuation. Further, American spelling and usage are the standard on this site, so avoid non-U.S. spellings such as "rumour." Or "realise". This does not mean that American spelling is any more "correct," just that it is the standard for the site, and we should strive for consistency.

Minor problems with language (typos, etc) will usually be corrected by the editor, but if an entire passage needs to be rewritten, it will usually be rejected.

    Read the guide first:

Perhaps the majority of rejections I have to make are simply due to the fact that the information provided is already on the guide. At the very least, read the section of the guide to which you are submitting, so that you can be sure that your submission isn't a duplicate of something already on the guide.

    Include detailed comments:

Use the comments section to tell me exactly why this submission should be accepted. If it is a piece of new information, provide me a link to a source (a detailed link, not just "john smith's website" or "johnsmith.com" because I don't have time to search an entire site for every submission). If you have edited anything, but especially the summary or recap, tell me exactly what you changed. I need to be able to see at a glance what has changed.

    Proper Formatting:

Movie and television titles should be bolded, not italicized or in quotes. Actors should be linked to their respective tv.com guides, followed by the name of the character they played in parentheses and italicized. Always link movie titles to their movietome.com page. Songs should be italicized. Band names require no formatting. For further clarification on this, please feel free to p.m. me.

    Music Submissions:

Music belongs in the notes section. I am in the process of moving all music submissions currently in trivia to the notes section. Feel free to assist with this if you like. When submitting new music selections, please preface the list with the words "Featured Music" in bold, followed by a list of the episode's music. Song titles should be in italics. A proper submission should look like this:

    Featured Music:
    song title by Aerosmith

Do not ask questions within a submission:

Entries in the guide are supposed to be information for later readers. Therefore, please do not use questions. They serve no purpose (since no one can answer you) and encourage debate on the guide (see next point). For example, rather than writing "In this episode Peyton kills a puppy. Why would she do that?" you could write "It seems odd that Peyton would kill a puppy in this episode, since she isn't usually evil." This includes rhetorical questions. Do not debate on the guide:

If you disagree with an entry, do not submit another entry trying to explain it away. Your submission will appear above the earlier one, and will seem out of place. More important, though, having different points of view on the guide can be confusing, since this is supposed to be a source of information. The best thing to do if something on the guide is incorrect, is to either rewrite the whole thing so that it will be correct (don't just add something like "edit: In reality, blah blah blah" at the end), or else have the whole entry deleted. Only do this if you are certain that the information is incorrect, and explain how you know this in the comments field.

    Submit to the correct section:

The most common mix-ups are between "notes" and "trivia" but I have seen many kinds of information being submitted to the wrong guide section (quotes that are sent as trivia, recaps submitted as summaries, etc). BTW, "notes" refers to anything behind the scenes or off-camera, while "trivia" should be about things which were onscreen, but that a casual viewer may have missed. Music goes in the notes section. For more information, check the site guidelines.

    No spoilers:

Do not enter information that would be considered a "spoiler" for a later episode. We want these guides to be usable by people who are watching the episodes for the first time. Thus, if something connects to a later episode, mention it on the later episode's guide. This avoids spoilers, and also prevents "double dipping" by entering the same information on both episodes.

    Quotes:

Please do not submit quotes that are meaningless and/or contain pages of dialogue. In general, please limit quotes to no more than four lines of dialogue. This will prevent the quotes section from becoming cluttered and difficult to read. A good quote should read like a sound byte - snappy, quick and easy to read. Quote format:

This is a constant problem. Every quote on the guide should follow the same format, meaning that the name of the speaker is in bold, followed by a colon (which is not bolded), followed by text which does not have quotation marks or any other modifications. Occasionally, if you must describe an action or explain who the speaker is addressing, put that information in parentheses after the colon, and italicize the parentheses. Bold and italics are done using XHTML. For more information on this, see the site guidelines.

The end result looks like this:

Dick: Do you think anyone is home?
Jane: (as the door creaks open) Umm... I think that means "yes."

    Single and double quotation marks:

As mentioned above, quotation marks are not used in the standard quote format. Since single quotation marks are only used for a quote within a quote, this means that any quotation marks on the guide should be the standard double quotation marks. In other words:

Correct: In this episode, we learn that "Johnny" is really Jimmy in disguise.

Incorrect: In this episode, we learn that 'Johnny' is really Jimmy in disguise.

An example of the correct use of single quotes would be:

In this episode, we learn that "Johnny 'The Hand' Jones" is really Jimmy in disguise.

    Ellipses:

Ellipses are the dots that are used to indicate a long pause, a trailing off sentence, missing information, etc. These should always be only three dots with no space at the beginning, and one space at the end. The only exception would be indicating missing text, in which case you can leave a space at the beginning and end. Most submissions use more than three dots, and forget the space at the end.

    Recaps and Summaries:

Please write original, concise recaps. Copying from other sites is not allowed. TV.com prides itself on having original summaries on this site and expects users to do their own work. Sometimes you will find that summaries from our site appear on other websites. In many cases, those sites have lifted the summary from here - not the other way around. If you think a summary or recap has been lifted from another site, send me a private message before submitting a change. Thanks.

    Thanks for reading this.

    EDITED FORUM RULES

    1. I know everyone has very strong feelings regarding the ability to talk freely in the couples threads. I understand that fans of certain couples want a place where they can talk and make friends with others who like the same 'ship. Unfortunately, I do have to abide by tv.com rules so I can't just give you free rein to talk off-topic in your couples lounge. What I *can* do is tell you it's ok to talk to each other in the forum, so long as in each post you bring the discussion back to the topic at hand. Hijacking the thread, or making it difficult/impossible for others to discuss Brucas/Leyton/Naley etc., in their respective forums etc., is NOT okay. But as long as least part of each of your posts IS on topic then we'll get along great.

    2. The couples threads will remain pinned/unlocked throughout the duration of my editorship unless tv.com tells me to do otherwise. DO NOT ASK ME TO UNPIN THEM BECAUSE I WILL NOT. I will only lock a thread if the discussion in a thread gets nasty or out-of-control. I will always give warnings, usually multiple times before something like this happens ESPECIALLY when it concerns popular threads, i.e. Leyton Lovers, Brucas Society etc.

    3. Do not post multiple threads on the same topic. This will result in the locking and/or deletion of a thread. 4. Question posts belong in the specified questions thread. 5. Please make sure to title new threads appropriately. Good title: "The Effect of Bryan Greenburg's return on Leyton" Bad title: "What will happen when..."

    6. NO CENSOR BYPASSING. By this I mean, do not misspell well-known cuss words. You might make it past the computer censor but I do monitor the threads, and if I see this it will result in an immediate TOS, without warning. Consider this your warning. I am very lenient on a lot of things but on this I feel very strongly. Children come on this board -please be respectful. 7. Please treat everyone respectfully. I know we all feel very strongly about our respective couples but loving Brucas is not a reason to be nasty to a Leyton fan and vice versa. Please do not post inflammatory posts as they will be deleted and may cause your thread to get locked.

    7. Please do not post in red, except for in signatures or in graphics. I use the color red for mod-type posts and want it to alert members of important posts. Any other color is ok to use in your posts. Thanks.

Here are the forum rules, as per tv.com guidelines. These rules have not changed but I am reposting them here for the benefit of the OTH community.

After some confusion and subsequent review, the following is a clarification of TV.com policy and the Terms of Service as they concern the One Tree Hill forum.

    1) Off-Topic Policy: There is one designated off-topic lounge for more relaxed discussion of the show and any tangents. Any discussion that does not relate to the show should go to that thread as that is its purpose.

    2) Fan Club Threads: These are not exempt from the TV.com Off-Topic Policy and it's not necessary to post off-topic material in them because an off-topic lounge already exists.

    3) Game Threads: There is a limit of four games on any show forum. All but the top four games have been moved to the TV.com Fun & Games forum. We recommend you check your forum posting history to locate these threads and then bookmark them so you can easily find them in future.

    4) Blogs: If users are unhappy with any of the above, we encourage them to use their blogs and provide a link in their signature lines. Blog owners are allowed to set the topic of their blogs.

Any violations of the above will be treated accordingly, with a progression of moderations, suspensions, and bannings. However, as long as folks stick to discussing the show, there shouldn't be any problems.

Users should keep in mind that threads on a show forum are intended to discuss that show. We appreciate users wanting to come together as a community, but that community must function within the agreed-upon Terms of Service (TOS) that everyone agreed to when they signed up for the site. Excessive off-topic postings and games can bury attempts at new discussion and actually deter new users from coming to the forum. This is not always apparent to users who are accustomed to how the forum has functioned "the way it always has been."

These policies and issues are not subject to petitions, are not at the discretion of an editor, and editors are required to abide by the TOS and help enforce it. TV.com staff and moderators will continue to monitor the forum and make sure that the TOS is followed.

Hah I'll try not too, but I think some of the previous editors were forcibly retired - I plan to be active, check the queue daily, and play fair so I think I'll be sticking around. No worries!
