  • Aftermath...

Series three gets off to a great start with Like You Like an Arsonist, setting up storylines and relationships for the future.

First off - Dan is alive but knows someone has tried to kill and wants revenge. I'm glad they make Dan all out evil in this season, him trying to be nice in series two didn't work for me so it's a welcome relief. Who is it? Well I know who it is, but they are heavily hinting it's Lucas right now which is clever.

Speaking of Lucas, he spent the summer rekindling his friendship with Peyton and now Brooke has agreed to date him non-exclusively. I'm glad he and Peyton are friends again and interested to see the shoe explore he and Brooke as a couple. Peyton fighting with her dad over Ellie, and find out she's adopted was good set up for the storyline coming. Liked hwo her dad defended her mom so forcefully.

One of the most interesting parts of this season opener was Haley's return and peoples different reactions. Nathan rightly pushed her away and went to camp. Brooke was icy at first but warmed up and allowed Haley somewhere to live. Lucas was just happy to have her back for good. BUT Peyton is bitter. I like this because it makes complete sense that Peyton resent Haley for leaving - an entertaining little feud a head.

But Nathan and Haley are over for now - thank god they didn't just reunite them straight away. In other news; Mouth and Eric split up because 'she got popular' - don't care. Karen returned without Andy. Over it. Deb and Dan are officially getting a divorce. About time. Keith is still no where to be found.

    Series three is already good!

  • The beginning of my favorite season

I love season 3!! It is my favorite season. There are so many great moments, episodes, and quotes and it all starts with this episode!!!

We start with the fire at the dealership. Deb, Nathan, and Haley go to see what happened. And Dan somehow made it out of the fire. Nathan and Haley have a sweet moment where in the face of this tragic event they hold hands. It's so sweet!! Then we skip ahead to 3 months later and it is now the end of summer. Peyton and Lucas have hung out all summer, Nathan is gone at High Flyers, Brooke is back from California, Karen comes home from Australia, and Dan has spent the whole summer searching for Naley's annulment papers.

It's a very flashback filled episode. As summer ends and everyone comes back home we have flashbacks of what happened at the beginning of the summer. All the Nathan and Haley flashbacks just break my heart. I don't entirely blame him, but I hate the way Nathan treated Haley when she came back. That is until the end when we see he is wearing his wedding ring around his neck. So clearly he still cares!

It's about time Dan and Deb finally got there divorce. It was only a few episodes into the first season when Deb asked him to move it and it's taking forever for them to get it over with. I like seeing Lucas and Peyton hanging out and being friends. I love them as a couple, but they are also really great friends, too and that's what makes them work as a couple. I'm not really into the whole summer fling in the fall thing for Lucas and Brooke. As I've said before, I'm not a Brucas fan, but they are cute together.

And this whole Ellie thing is weird, but it's a great storyline for Peyton. It brought her dad back and we get to see them having some real good moments. A new actor is playing Peyton's dad which is weird, but I'm not bothered by it. He isn't around much for it to be a big deal.

I really love that Haley moved in with Brooke. It's the beginning of the great Baley friendship that we have today!!

And I love the quote at the end...."Six billion people in the world. Six billion souls. And sometimes, all you need is one!"moreless

  • Season 3, Episode 1.

Ah, the solution to the cliffhanger in the season 2 finale. Dan survives the fire, and it makes you think that Lucas started it, although it previously made you think it was Andy. I hate the continuity, how they change the lines when they recreate the scenes from 2.23. I loved when Haley grabbed Nathan's hand when they showed up at the burning dealership. Deb and Haley have the best haircuts, but I like Brooke's, too. Peyton learns she is adopted, and Brooke and Peyton decide to become a non-exclusive couple. Nathan loves Haley but can't trust her. :( I can't believe that Dan and Deb haven't been divorced yet, when she had the papers for him in season one. Haha, Brooke. "You have a place to live, I look hot, and you don't get crabs at a shelter." LMAO.moreless
  • 3 months after s2 season finale. Karen and Brooke returns, Peyton facing birth mom thoughts, Dan trying to remember the fire, Lucas becomes part-time boyfriend with Brooke, Nathan still at High Flyers camp and we revisit the night Haley returned home.moreless

This episode is very special to me. Not because of the plot, the flashbacks or the new information we get, but because this was THE episode I realized just how incredible talented Bethany Joy Galeotti really is in the role of Haley James Scott and that will be the focus of my review.

Haley's return home was shown at the end of season 2 and we got to see an actress showing so much emotions in a scene with only one simple word, "Hi".

In this season opener we get to revisit that same night in flashbacks for Haley. It never stops amazing me how well BJoy gives life to the wife returning to her husband with regrets, hope, love, heartache and her heart shown in every single scene.

We get to see the apologizing, the bafflement, the explanations and declarations and maybe most momorable the desperate moment when Haley after performing the most painful "Always and forever" moment in Naley's history runs to Nathan's bed with so much emotion embracing him and start kissing him while still having pain, regret and heartache written all over her face and body.

In other very momorable Naley moments in this season opener we also get to see Haley remembering her first performance in Karen's cafe for Nathan, Nathan remembering the moment he read what he expected to be her signature on the anulment papers "I love you . . .", Haley facing the painted wall in their old apartment and then facing the framed wall again with the simple word "Love" in the frame, her putting her wedding ring back on in her room shared with Brooke and finally when we see Nathan wear his wedding ring in a chain around his neck.

I'll rewrite Mouth's story from episode 97(season 5 episode 9) regarding this episode:

"There was a One tree hill episode tonight somewhere in the world. Characters returned and characters moved. That's not the real story. The real story is about Bethany Joy Galeotti and Haley. It's about talent and opportunity and world class acting. Girls and boys watched the episode. They hoped and cheered for their characters. Some did get what they wanted. Some didn't. It's a story that has history and chapters yet to be written. There was a One tree hill episode tonight somewhere in the world. Fans will remember. They'll tell you how their characters reached crossroads and why it happened like it did. But that's not the real story. As a matter of fact, that's not the story at all."moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • Both Dan and Deb's full names can be seen on the divorce papers. Dan's full name is Daniel Robert Scott and Deb's full name is Deborah Helen Scott, making her birth name Deborah Helen Lee.

    • Nathan's signature on the annulment papers is different from the last time we saw them. When there is a flashback of Nathan looking over the annulment papers, his signature is printed in bold letters. When we see the papers again, the letters are very light and his signature is done in big, loopy cursive.

    • Karen: One song per cup.

Karen says this to Haley when she enters the cafe after coming back from the tour. This is a delightful reference back to the season one episode when Haley bribed singer/songwriter Sheryl Crow to sing for them - one song per cup.

  • QUOTES (19)

    • Larry: Your mom didn't sleep for a week when we brought you home. Every cough, every gurgle, she'd be up and have you in her arms immediately. One time I teased her about it and she said "I'm always gonna be there for her, no matter what, she's gonna know her mother loves her." Honey, we were gonna tell you together. But when she died, I guess I didn't want to confuse your grief. And I felt so powerless that I couldn't protect you from losing her. You know, I look at this drawing and I think, you can be mad at me if it helps, but you leave your mom out of it, cause she never lied to you, and she loved you with all her heart. And this other woman, Ellie, she doesn't change who your mom was. So don't you! Don't you dare.

    • Peyton: You said you wanted to talk about it face-to-face, Dad. So we're face-to-face. Is this woman my mother?
Larry: Your mom is gone Peyton, you know that. But... your biological mother is alive.

    • Brooke: Okay, you can hate me for saying this... but maybe your problem isn't so much with Haley as it is with Ellie, your returning birth mother.
Peyton: No, Brooke. My problem is with anybody who just vanishes and then waltzes back in and expects to be instantly forgiven. And your problem is you're not gonna have anybody to help you paint this place if you don't stop telling me what my problem is.

    • Brooke: You and Haley fighting?
Peyton: That depends on which Haley we're talking about: Haley Scott, the nice girl that played TRIC; or Haley James, the not so much of a wife that left town and never called? Because her I have a problem with.
Brooke: Do you ever think maybe it just got to be too much for her? Like, leaving the whole Chris thing out of it, maybe she just got scared of needing somebody too much.
Peyton: Needing them so much she just abandoned them?

    • Haley: Nathan, there wasn't a moment when I was away that my heart wasn't here with you in Tree Hill.
Nathan: That's great. But I'm still leaving tomorrow, and unlike you, I'm taking my heart with me.

    • Nathan: So, what are you doing here anyway? Tour playing Tree Hill?
Haley: No. They wanted me to become a solo artist and record a record or something, but it didn't matter without you. None of it mattered without you. I made a lot of mistakes, Nathan.
Nathan: That's right. And if you left the tour for me you made another one, 'cause I'm leaving in the morning. I'm going to High Flyers.
Haley: Oh. Well, good. Good, you deserve it. You deserve to have whatever you want.

    • Nathan: I deleted you.
Haley: Well, then you deleted this: I was being childish when I walked away from you for the tour. You gave me an ultimatum the night that I left, and I fought back for all the wrong reasons. I was being stubborn, and I can't take that back. I wish that I could. Did I want to go? Yeah, I loved it. I loved every night of it. But I want you to know something Nathan. There was never a night where I loved it more than I loved you.

    • Lucas: It's been a tough year on hearts. So it's too bad we had to be this desperate to hang out again, huh?
Peyton: We didn't have to be. We just are. But I'm glad you're here. I know we kinda lost each other for a while but hopefully that's over, right? Especially considering our history.
Lucas: It's always gonna be there, isn't it? You and me?

    • Brooke: How much for a broken heart with a side of regret?
Haley: Um… more than you wanna know.
Brooke: So when you done here, bring your stuff over to the apartment.
      Haley: Why?
Brooke: Because you're moving in with me.
Haley: Why.. Why would you do that?
Brooke: Because you need a place to live, and I need rent money for my new back to school wardrobe. So the way I see it, you move in, I look hot, and you don't get crabs at a shelter. Works for me.

    • Nathan: Just wanted to make sure you have everything you need.
Haley: You mean other than you? Sorry. That wasn't fair.

    • Larry: I never knew your father. We only met Ellie. We asked that she not make contact with you unless you requested it. You know, sometimes it's hard for me to look at you without seeing your mom. You got so much from her in such a short time.
Peyton: What did I get from her… exactly? Other than lies!

    • Brooke: Okay, putting aside the fact that I do look pretty good considering I've been on the plane for like a day and a half, you cannot ambush me at the airport with flowers and a nicely tanned, end of summer body, considering the way we left things three months ago. Okay?
Lucas: Actually, I'm just here to pick up my mom from New Zealand. I didn't think you were coming in 'til tomorrow.
Brooke: You thought wrong. Oh, look, there's my cab. Quick, maybe you can tell me you love me or something.

    • Haley: I understand if you don't love me anymore.
Nathan: Always and forever. That's what sucks Haley. I still do love you. I always will. I just can't trust you.

    • Deb: As you know from my emails about Dan, I have been one miserable bitch. You?

    • Haley: Hey, that was your mom on the phone, she said she's gonna spend the night at the hospital with your dad.
Nathan: Unbelievable. We should have a Scott family discount.

    • Priest: May the grace of God be with you.
Dan: Yeah, okay. I gotta tell you, padre, this isn't exactly my home court, you know. I never had much use for religion. I guess what you call kindness, I call weakness. But no man is bullet-proof. I know that. After all, they crucified your boy, didn't they?
Priest: What troubles you, my son?
Dan: What troubles me is how I've made mistakes. How I lie awake at night, keeping company with regret... fallibility. I've not been the man I intended to be. That troubles me.
Priest: And you've come seeking absolution?
Dan: Yeah, I suppose I have. Let me ask you something. Is it possible to grant forgiveness for sinful acts yet to be committed?
      Priest: I'm afraid I don't understand.
Dan: It's simple really. Three months ago someone tried to kill me. They drugged me and left me for dead. I pretended not to remember, but in fact, every night since I've tried to piece it together, and when I find out who did this to me, and I will find out soon, the sins I commit then could turn this place to rubble.

    • Lucas: Look, I know it wasn't fair, how I told you I wanted to be with you when your cab was just parked right outside. I just saw you slipping away, and I guess I panicked.
Brooke: It's okay. Really. It is. I actually had the whole summer to think about this and I thought we could totally have a summer-like fling just in the fall. And non-exclusive.
      Lucas: Non-exclusive. How's that work?
Brooke: Well, we hang out. Go to movies. We have fun.
      Lucas: Do we kiss?
Brooke: You bet your ass we kiss.
Lucas: Do we do more than kiss?
Brooke: Maybe. But we also date other people. So what do you think?
      Lucas: I kinda think you're a genius.
Brooke: Oh, you're just figuring that out now, are you? I missed you, Lucas Scott.
Lucas: And I missed you too, pretty girl.

    • Peyton: OK, so, check it out, Tom Sawyer. If you're lucky, I might let you help me, and if you're really lucky, I might even let you pay to help me.

    • Peyton (voiceover): At this moment there are 6,470,818,671 people in the world. Some are running scared. Some are coming home. Some tell lies to make it through the day. Others are just now facing the truth. Some are evil men, at war with good. And some are good, struggling with evil. Six billion people in the world. Six billion souls. And sometimes...all you need is one.

Peyton is referring to the well-known passage in the book in which Tom persuades his friends to not only white-wash a long fence for him, but to pay him for the honor.
