Ah, the solution to the cliffhanger in the season 2 finale. Dan survives the fire, and it makes you think that Lucas started it, although it previously made you think it was Andy. I hate the continuity, how they change the lines when they recreate the scenes from 2.23. I loved when Haley grabbed Nathan's hand when they showed up at the burning dealership. Deb and Haley have the best haircuts, but I like Brooke's, too. Peyton learns she is adopted, and Brooke and Peyton decide to become a non-exclusive couple. Nathan loves Haley but can't trust her. :( I can't believe that Dan and Deb haven't been divorced yet, when she had the papers for him in season one. Haha, Brooke. "You have a place to live, I look hot, and you don't get crabs at a shelter." LMAO.moreless

This episode is very special to me. Not because of the plot, the flashbacks or the new information we get, but because this was THE episode I realized just how incredible talented Bethany Joy Galeotti really is in the role of Haley James Scott and that will be the focus of my review.

Haley's return home was shown at the end of season 2 and we got to see an actress showing so much emotions in a scene with only one simple word, "Hi".

In this season opener we get to revisit that same night in flashbacks for Haley. It never stops amazing me how well BJoy gives life to the wife returning to her husband with regrets, hope, love, heartache and her heart shown in every single scene.

We get to see the apologizing, the bafflement, the explanations and declarations and maybe most momorable the desperate moment when Haley after performing the most painful "Always and forever" moment in Naley's history runs to Nathan's bed with so much emotion embracing him and start kissing him while still having pain, regret and heartache written all over her face and body.

In other very momorable Naley moments in this season opener we also get to see Haley remembering her first performance in Karen's cafe for Nathan, Nathan remembering the moment he read what he expected to be her signature on the anulment papers "I love you . . .", Haley facing the painted wall in their old apartment and then facing the framed wall again with the simple word "Love" in the frame, her putting her wedding ring back on in her room shared with Brooke and finally when we see Nathan wear his wedding ring in a chain around his neck.

I'll rewrite Mouth's story from episode 97(season 5 episode 9) regarding this episode:

"There was a One tree hill episode tonight somewhere in the world. Characters returned and characters moved. That's not the real story. The real story is about Bethany Joy Galeotti and Haley. It's about talent and opportunity and world class acting. Girls and boys watched the episode. They hoped and cheered for their characters. Some did get what they wanted. Some didn't. It's a story that has history and chapters yet to be written. There was a One tree hill episode tonight somewhere in the world. Fans will remember. They'll tell you how their characters reached crossroads and why it happened like it did. But that's not the real story. As a matter of fact, that's not the story at all."moreless

  • Very good episode!

Flashbacks are littered throughout this episode. The news of Peyton's birth mother is shocking to her. Her father tries to help explain things. Lucas and Brooke start dating nonexclusively. Haley is back, but Nathan can't accept her yet. She apologizes a lot, but Nathan says he can't trust her anymore. Haley moves in with Brooke. Karen gets back from New Zealand. Dan is recovering from both physical wounds and mental trauma. He wants to shove revenge on whoever tried to kill him. Lucas mentions something he has done that he can't take back. He is holding the note to Dan saying "For all you've done." Somebody saved Dan as he woke up outside the burning building. Nathan is now at High Flyers and Haley is trying to contact him through letters. Deb gives Dan the divorce papers and he agrees that they need to get a divorce, to Deb's surprise. Keith is still not back yet. Erica broke up with Mouth.

This episode was really great! It was cool with the flashbacks, but for a second, I was a little confused by them. I really noticed the actor for Peyton's dad changed, but it doesn't really bother me that much. I really want Nathan and Haley to get back together, but I agree that she really needs to earn her trust back. It was really sad though when she saw the pink paint over the picture. This episode gets a 9.5 out of 10!moreless

    • Both Dan and Deb's full names can be seen on the divorce papers. Dan's full name is Daniel Robert Scott and Deb's full name is Deborah Helen Scott, making her birth name Deborah Helen Lee. Edit
    • Nathan's signature on the annulment papers is different from the last time we saw them. When there is a flashback of Nathan looking over the annulment papers, his signature is printed in bold letters. When we see the papers again, the letters are very light and his signature is done in big, loopy cursive. Edit
    • Karen: One song per cup. Karen says this to Haley when she enters the cafe after coming back from the tour. This is a delightful reference back to the season one episode when Haley bribed singer/songwriter Sheryl Crow to sing for them - one song per cup. Edit

    • Larry: Your mom didn't sleep for a week when we brought you home. Every cough, every gurgle, she'd be up and have you in her arms immediately. One time I teased her about it and she said "I'm always gonna be there for her, no matter what, she's gonna know her mother loves her." Honey, we were gonna tell you together. But when she died, I guess I didn't want to confuse your grief. And I felt so powerless that I couldn't protect you from losing her. You know, I look at this drawing and I think, you can be mad at me if it helps, but you leave your mom out of it, cause she never lied to you, and she loved you with all her heart. And this other woman, Ellie, she doesn't change who your mom was. So don't you! Don't you dare. Edit
    • Peyton: You said you wanted to talk about it face-to-face, Dad. So we're face-to-face. Is this woman my mother? Larry: Your mom is gone Peyton, you know that. But... your biological mother is alive. Edit
    • Brooke: Okay, you can hate me for saying this... but maybe your problem isn't so much with Haley as it is with Ellie, your returning birth mother. Peyton: No, Brooke. My problem is with anybody who just vanishes and then waltzes back in and expects to be instantly forgiven. And your problem is you're not gonna have anybody to help you paint this place if you don't stop telling me what my problem is. Edit

    • Peyton: So, Tom Sawyer, if you're lucky I might let you help me. And if you're really lucky I might let you pay to help me. This is a reference to Tom Sawyer, the main character of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, written by American novelist Mark Twain. Peyton is referring to the well-known passage in the book in which Tom persuades his friends to not only white-wash a long fence for him, but to pay him for the honor. Edit
