  • That ending...

Running To Stand Still was yet another great fifth season episode.

That ending was crazy too. Nathan and Haley finally have it out about Carrie (who is revealed to just be a crazy bitch in this episode, set up for the wedding episode) and then Jamie nearly drowns. It was shocking to see for sure but then when Haley asked for a divorce - wtf? For the first time though Jamie annoyed me. I hated how he was annoyed with Haley for firing Carrie - it felt a little OTT for me.

Nathan also went to see Dan with Lucas in a surprisingly dull storyline. Probably because everything else was so exciting. But he may get out soon and while that seems a little silly it's interesting. Meanwhile Brooke and Owen go to New York and find RACHEL. Good to see her again...cept the fact that she's now into drugs. It was intense though and I liked how Brooke decided to being her back to Tree Hill. Peyton making sure Mia got a good record deal from her old boss was enjoyable and it's quite sad to see Mia go so soon.

This season is definitely building up brilliantly.

  • Dan's Up For Parole

Dan is up for parole and Nathan and Lucas go to the parole hearing to try and make sure he doesn't get out. Lucas' speech was amazing. I just wish the parole board would really take it into account and not listen to the crap that Dan was spewing. Dan is a great character and is great villain to the show, but I just don't think he should get out of jail.

Nanny Carrie is a complete and total psycho. She is crazy. I couldn't believe it when she climbed into the shower with Nathan. Never mind that Haley caught them, but how would she explain that Jamie if he walked in. I don't blame Haley for reacting the way she did. Even though nothing was going on, it still looked pretty bad, but kicking him out and asking for a divorce...that was intense. It was seriously scary when Jamie almost drowned. I'm glad he is okay.

Rachel is back, but not in a way I would have liked. It was cool to find out that she had been working for Brooke as a model until Victoria made her fire her, but this version of Rachel with the drugs and everything...She sort of turned over a new leaf in season 4 when she took the fall for taking the test and became friends with Brooke and now they just completely change her character again. I love that Brooke had Owen there to help her with Rachel. They are good together and I liked getting to learn more about Owen.moreless
  • No Lucas love relationship? Excellent!

Family Troubles: The evil nanny has ruined the once great family, I thought I would hate the idea, but it made for more Haley and Nathan time, which made the episode not show and Lucas and Peyton bits, Lindsey wasn't even in the episode! I do feel sorry for these two because everything was going so well, I just knew Nathan should have told Haley earlier, what a shame. I feel sorry for Jamie the most though.

Record Deal: Peyton's old boss comes back and he wants to steal Mia away from Peyton. Mia is convinced that she won't be signing with John, but Peyton thinks otherwise. This was actually really boring, but I'm excited to see Ryan Adams in the next few episodes, I hope they show him.

Parole: Dan tries to get out of prison after having five years of good conduct. Lucas gives his case on why Dan should not be allowed to leave, but something Nathan did practically omitted everything he said. I am not happy to be seeing Dan around in this show, he's a pretty boring character if you ask me.

Sometimes, All You Need Is A Friend: Brooke shows Owen around her old apartment in New York, but when she gets there, she meets up with an old friend who isn't doing so well. Owen lends a helping hand and gives Brooke advice. This is looking interesting, I loved the scene wherein Brooke was unsure if her friend was going to live. I know who the friend is by the way, I just don't want to spoil it.moreless
  • Season 5, Episode 10.

Brooke runs into someone from her past while on a trip to New York with the Tric bartender, Owen. Nathan and Lucas attend Dan's hearing while they try to protect Jamie from him. Mia gets an offer from a major record label and in the meantime, Haley and Nathan's marriage is on the rocks. Darn that was an awesome shower scene with Nathan. Rawr. Haha. I feel bad for Haley though. Carrie is such a freak, but a hot freak. Poor Jamie! OMG Rachel! That scene was performed excellently. Sophia Bush is an amazing, hot actress. I'm pretty sure Rachel is the person Brooke had to fire in like the first episode of the season. Great episode!moreless
  • Really intense!

Dan may gain his freedom back. Lucas and Nathan fight against it. After Haley catches Nathan and Carrie in the shower, she tells them both to leave. Of course, Nathan didn't know Carrie would come in and he tried to get her out. Jamie hates Haley for making Carrie leave. Nathan tries to explain, but Haley won't listen. Quentin needs a cast. He is upset and takes it off. Peyton's old boss comes back and wants Mia for his record label. They work out a deal with Mia's dramatic performance. Owen and Brooke go to New York, where they find Rachel, who has overdosed on drugs. Owen tells Brooke to help her and not give up on her. Brooke takes Rachel home. Nathan and Haley have a fight about Carrie. Jamie falls into the pool and almost drowns. Haley and Nathan panic. After rescuing Jamie, Haley says that she wants a divorce.

This episode was really intense. With the end and Dan, there was so much. I didn't miss the Lucas/Lindsey storyline at all! I miss Keith though. It was good seeing Rachel again. I really liked her in season 4. I hope she gets better. Owen is a really good guy. I don't want Naley to break up. That was so scary when Jamie almost drowned. What an awful experience for all of them. I sort of want Dan to be free, but I hope he's learned something in prison. This episode gets a 10 out of 10 from me!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (11)

    • Goof: When Nathan kicks Carrie out of the shower at the beginning of the episode, he grabs a towel off the hook. When the camera angle changes, he is already wearing the towel around his waist.

    • Dan's inmate number is 6655321.

    • The postcard that Karen sends to Lucas says:

"Lily wants to know if you need a flower girl? So happy for you. Love, Mom"

    • When Brooke first approaches Owen, she's wearing a LOVE sweater. This is a sweater from the not-for-profit organization called To Write Love on Her Arms. Their mission is to bring hope to suicidal teens and young adults.

    • In previous episodes, Dan's middle name has been credited as Robert, however in this episode when Lucas is reading a letter from the parole board Dan's full name reads Daniel L. Scott.

    • When Lucas is checkin Quentin's hand, you can see a tattoo on his right wrist, the word 'R E L A X'.

If you think about it, when Lucas is stressed, or anyone for that matter, they rub their hands through their hair, with their wrists going in front of their eyes.

So when he is stressed, he sees RELAX.

    • Owen gets in the shower with Rachel in order to wake her up and then there is a cut scene. Next scene Owen is talking to Brooke and his t-shirt is completely dry which is clearly impossible.

    • We find out that Rachel is the model/friend that Brooke fired because Victoria told her to in "4 Years, 6 Months, 2 Days".

    • Goof: When Lucas is looking through his mail the number of letters in his hand switches between shots, at first it shows a few letters but then there is only one, the letter about Dan's parole hearing.

    • Jamie attends St. James Episcopal School.

    • Goof: When Haley is yelling at Nathan after they save Jamie from the pool, Nathan's legs go from being in the pool to out of the pool between scenes.

  • QUOTES (13)

    • Carrie: I need to get my stuff...
Haley: It's in the garage. Boxes are marked whore. I'll have the keys now.
Carrie: I'm sorry Haley, I never meant for it to turn out this way...
Haley: Did you go by Jamie's school today?
Carrie: Jamie looks at me as family, I was just saying goodbye.
Haley: No, you are not family. I invited you in to this home, and I trusted you with the two most important things in my life, my husband and my son, and you betrayed that trust.
Carrie: I know you're upset... Just know that I never meant for Nathan to fall in love with me.
Haley: Oh honey, he's not in love with you I can promise you that!
Carrie: ...Did he tell you he kissed me? Hm? He didn't tell you did he? God, that is so Nathan... Well, he did kiss me. And he watched me swim naked, and he liked it. You see, he wanted me in that shower. I'm sorry that it's hard for you to face, but it's the truth!
Haley: I told you once, and I am not telling you again. Stay the hell away from my family!

    • Brooke: (in scared voice) Somebody's here. (Owen looks around and they find Rachel)

    • Carrie: Jamie! Jamie!
Jamie: Why are you sad Nanny Carrie?
Carrie: Well, I'm sad because... I have to go away.
Jamie: But I don't want you to go away. Why do you have to leave?
Carrie: I really don't wanna leave you, it's just... Your mommy doesn't like nanny Carrie, she wants me to leave.
Jamie: But I want you to stay.
Carrie: So do I... But your mom's the boss, and what she says goes... (Jamie looks down sad) I wish you were my little boy. I always will. Goodbye Jamie.

    • Haley: The best part is you screw the nanny and Jamie ends up hating me.

    • Nathan: I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
Haley: No, You stay away from us,this marriage is over!
      Nathan: Haley...
      Haley: I want a divorce.

    • Lucas: (talks to the judges about Dan) My father abandoned my mother when she was pregnant with me. He left us to struggle on our own, even though he was a man of means. Growing up, I only had one person to look after me, Keith Scott. And this man killed him. His own brother, in cold blood at point-blank range. Next week, I'm getting married. Keith would have been my best man. But he's not gonna be there, just like he didn't see my state championship or see my first novel published. Dan took all that. And he did it with malice and premeditation. Dan is an educated man and if he is nothing, he's very persuasive. Do not let him fool you. He has a very dark and ugly heart. And he should never be allowed to walk the streets a free man. So as you deliberate his fate, I ask you only one question, how can a father hope to influence his sons when they never even came to see him, never even once.

    • Dan: (talks to the judges) When I was 17 years old, I fell in love. Her name was Karen. And for a long time, she loved me back. We had a son, Lucas. But we never became the family we should have been. Instead my brother Keith assumed that role. And in my heart something died. I deserve to be in here. There's no excuse for the crime that I committed. And believe me when I tell you I spend every moment wishing I could take that fateful day back. Keith Scott is dead because of me. And that's something I have to live with for the rest of my life. So I'll just make a pledge here today. If at some time you decide to grant me my freedom, know that I'll spend every living moment trying to mend the lives of the people that I hurt by my actions. Because I've lost more than my freedom. I've lost something far more important than that. My family. These young men stand at the dawn of their adult lives. So far, because of what I put them through, they've had it pretty rough. They deserve better. They deserve a father. I hope some day you'll give them that.

    • John Knight: (talks to Peyton) Just look at that wall again. All those artists have two things in common, great songs and a major label. I'll be honest, I'd love to sign Mia. I want to get her music out there into the world because it is great. She deserves to be heard. And you do not have the resources to do that yet. You're not even close. You're just gonna kill her.

    • Owen: What's underneath the clothes Brooke Davis?

    • Haley: It's a simple question Nathan. Did you kiss her?
Nathan: No, but she kissed me.

    • Haley: I know this is probably really hard for you to understand, cuz you're so little. Nanny Carrie wasn't a very nice lady, and she needed to go away.

Jamie: I wish Nanny Carrie was my mama.

    • (Carrie enters the kitchen)
Carrie: I need to get my stuff.
Haley: It's in the garage. Boxes are marked 'whore'.

    • Brooke: Rachel, what happened to you?
      Rachel: Life, I guess.

    • As from this episode, Kate Voegele (Mia) will be receiving the "Guest Starring" credit, and will be listed during the main credits.
