  • Awful.

    4.0
    "Poor"
A silly episode that was far too soppy and farfectched to mean anything.

Keith was more annoying than anything. I mean after such a dramatic ending to the last episode, it just was all a bit weird. I hated how they tried to be funny. It was just odd. Goth Brooke didn't make sense. It wasn't nearly as emotional as it should have been. The only good thing was that now Lucas will question what happened to Keith. Obviously it's great that everyone survived but then it was all a little pointless...and why the hell does Mark Schwahn write himself into the programme and be really annoying??

    worst episode ever.

  • Keith!!

    9.5
    "Superb"
It's kind of weird, but I love the dream Lucas has of seeing Keith and realizing what life would be like if Lucas was a different person. It was great seeing Keith again. And I love having Lucas realize how much he matters to everyone and how much Peyton loves him. So much that she would visit his grave even as an old woman. I didn't expect it to be her. I though it was Karen before they showed the age transition.

James Lafferty did an amazing job in this episode. He has come a long way since the beginning of the series and does the emotional stuff really well. It was a great scene and a great moment between Nathan and Haley after she woke up and they heard the baby's heart beat.

And while the dream thing with Keith was weird I love that they used it as a way to show Lucas that something isn't quite right about what he thinks happened the day Keith died.moreless

Well this episode was another fantastic installment from the talented writers if the show! I loved the whole idea of what the world would have been without luke, i thought it was a tad extreme but still pretty cool. Luke and Keiths chemistry is fantastic. I was shocked at the fantastic acting from nathan aswell as haley in the scene they hear their babys heart beat, it was really sad!

cant wait for the next episode, shuld be great...i cnt see them where i live so i watch them on youtube so please put them on youtube as soon as possible! thanks byemoreless
  • After Lucas's cardiac incident, he is visited by Keith. He is somewhat of an angel.

I thought this episode was very good. It was when Lucas actually realized that Jimmy didn't kill Keith. He doesn't know how to believe it though because he has no idea who else would have done it. Gosh! I wish he would just realize that it was DAN! I thought it was cool to see how things would have been if Lucas wasn't a good person. Like, we saw how Brooke was if Lucas hadn't gone back in to get Peyton, because Peyton would have died. And I loved how they showed Peyton as an older woman standing over Lucas's grave, because she "never let go of him." I thought that was sooo cute. I am a huge fan of Leyton!!! But I would cry if either of them died. Overall, this was a great episode.moreless

I liked the idea this episode had but in my view it didn't really do much at all! Keith was back but i didn't even enjoy his characters return, he was wated i thought! Peyton at the record store was very boring as was Dans jailtime! Lucas was annoying as ever, as was brooke though she wasn't even in it much. Nathan and Hayley again was boring, yeah nathan realised he was wrong and it was his fault! The worst episode of season 4 by far, nothing happened at all!
hope next week gets back to the one tree hill i love!!!moreless

  • TRIVIA (10)

    ADD TRIVIA
    • Cameo: Mark Schwahn (creator of One Tree Hill) appears in this episode as Max, the record store clerk.

    • When Brooke shows up in Peyton's bedroom to tell her about Lucas and Haley, she says, "There's been an accident," after she enters the bedroom. However, the same scene is at the end of the previous episode, and she did not say it then.

    • The angel on Peyton's tombstone looks to be the same angel that Ellie drew of Peyton in season 3.

    • The drawing of Peyton surrounded by flames that Lucas looks at in the garage reads: So Happy to be Here I'd like to thank my parents for being so supportive. And God for making all this possible. And all my friends. Everyone has been just swell.

    • At 18:52, when Keith said "The reason I came here," the boom-mic pops up into the shot, between them.

    • Keith says "Open your eyes" to Lucas a few times. This line was also said in the season 1 episode "I Shall Believe" by Karen to a comatose Lucas, and, in the season 3 episode "With Tired Eyes, Tired Minds, Tired Souls, We Slept" by Jimmy Edwards into four of the cellphones he confiscated from the students he held hostage at the tutor center.

    • In this episode the gun lays between Jimmy and Keith. In the original school shooting episode the gun lay in front of Jimmy (who had one arm above his head instead of beside his body like in this episode) this way Dan could pick it up when Keith checked Jimmy's heartbeat.

    • Goof: When Lucas has a cardiac arrest at the end of the episode, the paramedic tries to give him CPR, but instead of massaging his heart, his hands are above Lucas's stomach.

    • When the camera fades from Peyton and Lucas to Nathan and Haley in the hospital bed, you can see Haley licking her lips and opening then closing her mouth even though she's meant to be unconscious.

    • Goof: When Nathan is at the bridge wishing he had died, his knuckles are fine, even though in just a few hours earlier they were bleeding after he was punching Daunte.

    ADD QUOTES
    • Keith: You have a good heart Lucas. It may be flawed physically, but it's a good one.

    • Keith: I forgive you. Dan: Take it back. Keith: I forgive you! Dan: Take it back! Keith: I forgive you, little brother! Dan: Take it back, you son of a b!tch!

    • Lucas (voiceover): Have you ever wondered what marks our time here? If one life can really make an impact on the world? Or if the choices we make matter? I believe they do. And I believe that one man can change many lives... for better or worse!

    • Lucas: What is this? Keith: This is the world that would have been if you had led a different life Luke. Lucas: What about real life, huh? Keith: Real life is still there.

    • (after having a cardiac arrest Lucas wakes up and wanders around in confusion, sees a man walking, he shouts to him) Lucas: Hey! (he runs to the man) Lucas: Excuse me, can you tell me what's happening? (the man turns around and it is Lucas' dead uncle Keith) Keith: Hi Luke.

    • Brooke: (to Lucas) Look, I know you've got a lot going on right now, and just so you know, Karen is a mess. Peyton: (to Haley) Nathan's a mess. But you got to wake up soon. 'Cause I need you to take care of Brooke. Brooke: (to Lucas) You've got to wake up soon because I need you to take care of Peyton. Peyton: (to Haley) I just... I can't do it anymore. And it's not like we can leave her with Rachel. Brooke: (to Lucas) Besides, you're really good for her. Peyton: (to Haley) And I'm not sure she can find her way without you. Brooke: (to Lucas) What do you say? How about you wake up and help her out? Peyton & Brooke: Oh, and could you not tell her we had this conversation? Thanks.

    • Nathan: Do you have the new Haley James Album....on vinyl? Max: Nice...yeah I got a promo copy, right here. You know she's from Tree Hill? Nathan: Yeah..I know. (Nathan smashes the record on the counter) Max: I take it you're not a fan. (Nathan gives him the money and walks out the door, without saying anything)

    • Lucas: Brooke, what happened to you? Brooke: Get away from me!

    • Lucas: So, what if I don't wake up? Keith: I don't know, you tell me. Lucas: You don't know? You know, for a spirit, you suck at this. Keith: What do you want me to say? Lucas: I want to know if there's a heaven. If there's eternal life and all that stuff. I want to know if we're ever gonna see each other again. Keith: We're seeing each other now aren't we? Lucas: Ah, man. You really suck at this, Keith.

    • Lucas: I have to go back. Keith: Are you sure? Lucas: I never told Peyton I love her. I'm gonna go back.

    • Brooke: I thought I'd find you here. I remember when I found you down here when your mom died. Peyton: That was 8 years ago. You know Ellie used to watch us down here. She told me that once. Brooke: It's not gonna be like that this time, Peyton. You're not gonna lose Lucas and Haley the way you lost Ellie and your mom. Peyton: Or like I lost you? I miss you Brooke. Brooke: I'm still here. Peyton: Can we be friends again please? Brooke: Sure. Peyton: Like before? Brooke: I'm sorry Peyton, I don't think so. Like before is gone... Peyton: (In a very low voice) Yeah...

    • Peyton: I just wanna believe everything will be ok. Lucas and Haley and the baby, I just really really wanna believe it's gonna be ok. Max: I know! I tell you what, middle bin, four albums in, that's where your answers are. Peyton: Latoya Jackson?! Max: Alright, 5 albums in! Peyton: La Rocca. Max: Track 10. It's on me. (Peyton smiles and goes towards the door when Max calls her name) Max: Hey Peyton! You're way too young not to believe it's gonna be ok. Peyton: Thank you.

    • (Praying in a chapel) Nathan: I know I did a horrible thing, OK? But I deserve to be punished for that, not Haley. She's a good person. She'd be a great mother if... Look, I know it must suck how people are always asking for things and never giving anything back. And I know that Keith saved me at that bridge, but Haley saved me long before the accident. There has to be a miracle left for her. Please… Please don't take her from me. Don't take our child from her.

    • Keith: Do you really believe that Luke. Look into your heart, OK. It may be flawed physically but it's a good one and it's what makes you you. Luke you've changed other people's lives by opening it up. Don't close that off. Luke just look around this hallway, you were here that day what did you see... Open your eyes Luke, open your eyes the way you opened your heart. Open your eyes Luke.

    • Keith: It's OK Luke. I didn't come here to make you believe in me. I came here to make you believe in you.

    • (To Haley) Nathan: Hey baby, you know how you're always telling me that you're not going anywhere. Well I need to hold you to that right now, OK. Just I need you to come back to me. Listen! Just move one of your fingers if you can hear me, OK? Just move one of those beautiful fingers and let me know that you're still here with me.

    • (To Lucas) Peyton: You're always saving me. Please let me find a way to save you.

    • Keith: It's an easy thing saying I love you to people that matter. You never know when you might lose them or when they might lose you.

    • Keith: The next time you think being the best version of yourself dosen't matter you look into Peyton's eyes and everytime you do you'll know that it has and that it does.

    • (Voiceover) Lucas: Have you ever wondered what marks our time here? If one life can really make an impact on the world? Or if the choices we make matter? Sometimes in order to move forward you have to go back. In this case just a few minutes.

    • Keith: Journey, I used to love Journey. Journey is an Arena rock band formed in 1973 in San Francisco, California.

    • The plot of the episode is an intentional reference to the movie It's A Wonderful Life. Keith, now a ghost (in a way), plays the One Tree Hill version of Clarence, and Lucas is supposed to be George. It's A Wonderful Life is on the TV's in Lucas and Haley's hospital rooms.

    • Episode Title: Songs to Love and Die By Songs to Live and Die By is the name of the 2006 album from the band, 8MM.
