  • Season 2 begins!

    9.0
The opening to The Desperate Kingdom of Love is a strange trick and a pretty pointless one at that. Dan Scott is 'dead' and everyone is mourning for him. Until he grabs Debs hand and she jolts awake at his bedside, and it's all a dream. Why the writers put that in is beyond me, but the rest of the episode was pretty good for the premier of season two.

Dan is alive but in a coma. Thank god because he'll be around to be more evil than ever. While I don't judge Deb for nearly not calling an ambulance for Dan I couldn't stand her for the rest of the episode. I know Haley and Nathan getting married was rash and maybe even a little stupid but the way she went off on both of them was out of line. Telling Haley to 'shut your selfish little mouth' and blaming Nathan's for Dan's state was awful. What is wrong with Nathan's parents? I did like how we saw flashbacks to how the wedding came about. Haley's parents were hilarious! Why don't we see more of them? The vows were sweet too. I loved hen Haley broke down and panicked about making a bad choice. Nathan saved the day and his marriage. Good story line for these two.

Lucas and Keith in Charlotte was very brief. I liked the Stay/Go list but glad they came back. We wouldn't really have a show if they didn't. Although I found both their returns a little OTT. Why would Lucas turn up at the beach where Brooke and Peyton were? They had been bonding all day, and it was fun to see their friendship again, and he had to ruin it. Highlight as when they burned his letter and Brooke hoped there wasn't money in it. Keith and Deb don't fit. But Dan sees them hugging at the end - stupid drama. Whitey's condition seems to be worse. He's funny so hope he sticks around - I don't remember.

So, a good premier. I liked how they worked flashbacks throughout it but moved things along too. Now to get into the meat of season two's storylines.

  • Lucas comes home

    9.5
The beginning was both a little creepy and a let down. I waited all summer for this episode when it first aired and was disappointed that Deb was imagining the whole funeral.

So Dan survived the heart attack and is now in the hospital. Lucas and Keith are loving life in Charleston. They have an apartment with a killer view and Lucas has a new haircut.

As the episode goes one we learn more about Nathan and Haley's wedding and how they got her parents permission. And when they go to the hospital to see Dan they tell Deb who tells Karen. Deb is not happy at all about it. Haley also has second thoughts, but when Nathan reminds her of the vow he said to her on the beach she feels better about everything. Brooke and Peyton are enjoying being friends. Without Lucas around Karen doesn't know what to do and considers her options.

Best Part: I love Nathan's vow to Haley - "Someday, this beach might wash away. The oceans may dry. The sun could dim, but on that day, I'll still be loving you, Always and Forever!"moreless

  • Naley....

    8.5
Being a huge Naley fan myself you would know that this episode was very special for me :D So many beautiful speeches. Powerful moments, romantic scenes and a simple yet breathtaking wedding. Naley's flashbacks highlighted the episode with unforgettable moments. Some of which were hilarious. I liked Haley's mother. She was funny and sweet. The Keith/Lucas plot annoyed me so much. Their storyline is the reason I didn't rate this episode as a 10. They just left ! They come back straight away ! Coudln't the writers have given the storyline a little more time ?! Dan just had to wake up while Deb and Keith were hugging. Couldn't they have just killed Dan off ?! He annoys me so much. Worst character ever. Lucas annoyed me too during this episode. He convinced Keith to go back for Dan when Lucas hated Dan's guts. Why the sudden change of heart ? Brooke and Peyton had some great scenes. They lightened the episode. From the Naley romance plot to the addition of the " coach is sick " and " Deb feels gulity storylines "...Peyton and Brooke made the episode alot more fun. The episode ends with Lucas showing up to rowen the fun Peyton and Brooke were having, and the coach is told he has a tumor which needs to be removed. As a whole I liked it :) Since I watched the whole season I know that the drama is just getting started.moreless
  • Season 2, Episode 1.

    10
Ah, season 2! =] I liked how the episode began, with the creators trying to make the viewers believe that Dan died. Lucas and Keith are in a new town, and Lucas has a new haircut. Brooke and Peyton are on Day 2 of their hoes over bros reunion. I loved when Deb left Dan and told him to call 911 himself. She has a good heart though, even though she almost let him die. She did eventually call 911. Nathan has a pretty sexy body. The nipple ring kills it, though. Lucky Haley. =] Pretty good episode. Dan has HCM! It causes heart muscles to thicken. =] I like that his life is at risk. I don't like Dan, or Whitey. I'm glad that at least Whitey is gone after the four-year jump.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (6)

    • In this episode, Nathan and Haley get married during daytime. However, in the previous episode, they got married in the evening, after the game.

    • Number: 23.

The number 23 appears on the moving box where Keith writes the reasons to stay and go. This number appears frequently throughout the series, leading some viewers to believe it may have hidden significance to the writers.

    • When Haley says "Well maybe so" in response to Nathan saying she's caving on waiting for marriage to have sex during the flashback, her lips are not moving. It's obvious that this scene was shot at least twice and the shots vary during the scene.

    • Continuity: In the hospital, Deb is wearing the same clothes that she was wearing when Dan had the heart attack, which means that the action is happening the day after, but Dan's hair is longer and he's sporting a beard.

    • The words that Peyton writes on her wall are the lyrics to Yellowcard's "Empty Apartment", which is playing in the background.

    • When Keith writes "STAY" on the refrigerator box, the way it's written is different between shots.

  • QUOTES (15)

    • Haley: (convinced she and Nathan have made a mistake and rushed into marriage)
      I'm not a wife! I'm not even a senior!
Nathan: Haley, Haley, listen, this is not a mistake!
Haley: How can you be sure? Because there is nobody that thinks this thing can work.
Nathan: I do. I promise you, Haley. I will always be there for you; I will always protect you. Okay? (slides ring back on her finger) I will always protect you. Always.

    • Nathan: (comes into the room, sees Haley sobbing on floor) Haley, what's wrong?
Haley: I was just alphabetizing our CDs, and, um, we don't have any doubles. Not one.
      Nathan: So what?
Haley: So, 'Natalie Merchant' after 'Nas'? and 'Wilco' before the 'Wu Tang Clan'?
Nathan: So you listen to crummy music. I can live with that.

    • Whitey: Karen, I always pretend to be asleep when the nurse comes in here. She looks a lot like death, only uglier.

    • Keith: You know Luke, Dan's your birth father and um, even though he's never been in your life it wouldn't be wrong to be concerned.
Lucas: Would it be wrong to hope he dies?

    • Brooke: (to Peyton) Come on you fake blonde Goldilocks. Let's go.

    • Whitey: You know what I would do if I was your age?
      Karen shakes her head no.
      Whitey: Everything.

    • Haley: Nathan, couples don't get married in high school. It's just... not normal.
Nathan: So, I'm not normal... and what I'm feeling is definitely not normal. I'm gonna be honest with you Haley, I don't ever want to be normal. Not with you. I'm serious.
      Haley: I know you are.
Nathan: Ok, so I'll say it again. I could love you forever.
      Haley: Nathan, so could I.
Nathan: So then why can't forever start today?

    • Nathan: It's not about him. We're married now Haley. I'm never gonna hide that.

    • Brooke: Peyton, look at us. Look at this day. We are practically a beer commercial.

    • Nathan: Mr. and Mrs. James. You know that I'm emancipated and that I respect both of you very much and...
Jim: I think I know where you're going with this. Now if we adopt you, the making out with Haley is gonna have to stop, at least in public.

    • Jimmy: Well if it isn't Haley James. In my house between the hours of 8 and 12.
      Haley: Hello Daddy.
Jimmy: Daddy, uh-oh. This is gonna be expensive.

    • Nathan: Someday, this beach might wash away... the oceans may dry, the sun could dim, but on that day I'll still be loving you. Always and forever. I promise you, Haley.
Haley: I, Haley, take you Nathan to have and to hold from this day forward. In sickness and in health. For richer or poorer. For better or worse. I promise that I will love and cherish you, and will deny all things that come between us. I make this promise for eternity. A promise that I will keep forever. Until the end of time. 'Til death do us part.

    • Brooke: (while watching Lucas' letter burn) I hope it wasn't money.

    • Lydia: Jimmy! Kitchen! Haley's pregnant!

    • Keith: All right just to recap on the "reasons to stay" side we got: Dan's an ass, you were an ass, my new teaching job, we both get a fresh start, your mother annilated my heart, and this apartment has a killer view.
