This episode opens with Lucas on the riverside with his boys, who all are going to watch him in his first game. We see Karen, Keith & Haley in the cafe leaving for the game, but Karen stays at work instead. Whitey takes Lucas into his office and gives him his very own jersey. This is the first episode which we see Brooke Davis. The game doesn't go so well as hoped, Lucas seems to be missing more baskets than every before, so Whitey pulls him off. This is the first episode of the show to have the opening credits, ft music by Gavin DeGraw. After the game, Peyton & Nathan have another argument. So she walks home and goes to the river court where she bumps into Lucas, who gives her a ride home. Later Nathan phones to apologise to Peyton. Lucas gets into a fight in class with Nathan. Lucas sees Peyton throwing her drawings in to the bin and he gets them out. When he sees her next he tells her that their good, but she isn't impressed that he looked at them. Lucas didn't go to practice, so Whitey goes to find him, and finds him at the river court. He tells Lucas that they have a game tomorrow night and that he is on the team for the game. Karen tells Lucas that she wants to go and see the game, but he still isn't going to play. After they have a talk, he comes round to the idea of playing in the game. On his way to the game Lucas goes to Thud and hands them Peyton's drawings. As Karen walks into the gym, she spots Dan. As the team comes out Lucas tells Peyton that her art matters. We also see that Lucas has removed his name "Scott" from the back of his jersey. When Dan sees the back of Lucas jersey, he looks upsetmoreless

Anyway, I love the way Lucas sucks in his first game, and the way Nathan is still acting like a ... to him. I love the way Nathan and Peyton are so angry with eachother, kind of real life. I love the scenes between Lucas and Peyton in this episode, as they are both really interesting characters. I love Peyton's art work, it's Awesome. I love the way Lucas has lost his talent with his Basketball, well so he thinks. I love the classroom scene where they're describing eachother all in one word and then Nathan and Lucas have a fight. I love the way Jake is with Lucas, he is pretty cool. I love the way Coach is with his little remarks to everything. I love the way Lucas turns up to the game, which I loved. And the way he takes his name off his shirt was pretty cool, and I also love the way Lucas is talking in the background. I loved the scene between Lucas and Peyton about her art work getting him there. All in all, another Awesome episode.moreless

Okay, so with the pilot, I was actually convinced that One Tree Hill is a catchy and interesting show.. but the second episode got me hook, line and sinker. Any show that quotes Ayn Rand and plays The Get Up Kids in the same episode without it seeming lame or contrived is an automatic win in my book. This episode delved a little deeper into the characters lives and actually made me reconsider Whitey.. See, in the pilot, I thought he was kind of an idiot, but in this episode, it seems that the only idiots are Nathan and his father (hence the like father, like son...)

The drawings of Peyton and Lucas' interest in them was also interesting and ended up tying in well with the episode as a whole. It'll be interesting to see how their relationship develops over the season.. I just hope it doesn't descend into sentimental, overdramatic slop that a lot of shows tend to do with romnatic interests.. but so far, I like the way it's going.

    I never thought I'd say it, but I'm officially a fan.moreless

Not the greatest episode ever. Season 1, for me, so far, has been pretty weak. Brooke is finally introduced! Sophia Bush is sooo hot! This episode seemed slow-paced, however. It was sooo long! Nothing interesting happened either, except for the Nathan/Lucas fight in school. I liked when they wrote the one word on the papers, though. I immediately turned the DVD off after seeing this episode. I hate that Karen is Lucas' mother, and not Nathan's, because Nathan, Karen, and Dan all have brown hair, and it would make more sense. However, Lucas and Deb have blond, making it more realistic.moreless

    • Peyton: I guess misery really does love company. Lucas: What are you doing here? Peyton: Actually, I'm not here. I was never here. Lucas: You know, I shoot the ball and it goes in. I don't ask questions, I don't think about it. It's just the way it is. Peyton: Or the way it was. Lucas: Yeah. Peyton: Look, it's just a game. Who cares if the entire school, most of your friends and half the town saw you suck. Lucas: So…you've clearly come to cheer me up. Edit
    • Peyton: Why'd you decide to do it? Join the team? 'Cause you don't exactly fit in here, do you? Lucas: The game, I guess. I love the game. Peyton: Right. The same reason I cheer. It's all a big game. Why not just stay on the playground? Why join the varsity? Lucas: Because I want to know if I'm good. Peyton: Well, if you ask my opinion, we all just wasted a perfectly good evening. You, me, and everybody else in there. Lucas: Then why do you do it? I mean, do you really like it or not? Peyton: If I say that I like it, then I'm just another cheerleader. But if I say that I hate it, then I'm either a liar or a fraud. Either way I lose. Edit
