  • Definitely a turning point for the season!

Lucas chose Brooke. A good choice for drama's sake. The couple were good together. They bought condoms and scared Deb. They made Peyton awkward and regretful. I liked how Peyton could confide in Haley though. As everyone keeps saying, Brooke and Lucas won't last, you get a real sense of that here. It's almost like the show wants you to think he picked wrong. Especially considering Keith kept asking Luke to think about what he's doing.

One good thing that comes out of his decision is Peyton's interest in single-father Jake. He's always been supportive of Lucas and the reveal a few episodes ago that he has a daughter was a welcome one. The scene where he tells everyone about the baby and sings was nice. Him and Peyton seem to have chemistry and the looks they exchanged were fun. BUT Peyton lied to Brooke about her feelings for Lucas. She loves a bit of drama, doesn't she?

I'm glad Nathan finally let loose completely with Dan. He told him straight that he as a bad father and husband. About time. He still leans on Haley which I like. Speaking of Haley, I loved how she tried to organise the open mic night and spent more time with Peyton. I'm glad Lucas made peace with Deb too. That last scene was telling, everything has changed once again. At the moment, all our characters are getting along. How long will that last? Hm.

So, lots of interesting stuff to come. More Brooke/Lucas/Peyton drama. More Nathan and Haley. And the break-down of Nathan's family?

  • Give it up for Gavin DeGraw!!

Lucas makes his choice and he chooses Brooke. Peyton feels a bit like a third wheel, but mostly hates seeing them together because she wants to be with Lucas so she tries to avoid them both.

Whitey cancels practice in light of what happened with Nathan.

Dan tries to make up with Deb, but she wants nothing to do with him and suggest he try with Nathan first, but things don't turn out so well when they play a round of golf and Dan harasses him the whole time.

Deb and Haley decide to have an open mic night at the cafe to bring in some more business. Peyton makes the flyers and runs into Gavin DeGraw at Thud and asks him to stop by.

One other notable performer is Jake who brings his daughter, Jenny, along and introduces her to his world.

In the end Lucas invites the team to play for fun at the River Court with Whitey looking on.moreless

Ah, the beginning of many, many seasons of Leyton/Brucas drama. But YAY for Naley! They're such a hot couple! I loved when Lucas talked to Jake!

"Late night? Who's the girl?" "You don't know her." I loved that. The writing on this show is so witty and good! Great episode!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (7)

    • Goof: When Brooke is calling Peyton she says that she can see Peyton on her webcam, and the camera shows a closeup of the image of Peyton and Hayley on the computer screen. However, when Brooke says "Hi to you, too, Tutor Girl" the webcam screen behind Peyton is blank, as if the webcam is off.

    • Haley references the previous episode's dropped plot about Peyton and the orphan. She tells Peyton she needs her help but says, "don't worry it doesn't involve orphans..."

    • That's actually Bryan Greenberg's (Jake) voice singing the song "Lonely World" at Karen's Cafe.

    • During the scene where Whitey tells the team that practice is canceled indefinitely, Brooke mysteriously appears and disappears. In every shot where Whitey is talking you can clearly see Brooke standing in the front, but each time the camera cuts back to the team she is no longer there.

    • When Lucas, Nathan, and Haley are in the cafe and Lucas invites Nathan to the river court, what you hear him say is "some of the guys and I". But if you read his lips, you will see that what he actually said is "some of the boys and I."

    • When Lucas goes to Jake's house on Saturday, you can see a notebook on the step in front of him. Then Jake gets up to take Lucas inside and he grabs the notebook. When Jake opens the door he sets his guitar on the chair, but he doesn't have the notebook anymore.

    • In the morning after scene of Luke in his bed, his belt is undone and when he pulls the sheets off and gets out of bed, he has his shoes on.

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Haley: (referring to Peyton's taste in music) You're all over the place.
Peyton: I kinda got a lot of moods.

    • Haley: Nathan, about last night?
Nathan: Hey, look it's not about sex with me, okay? When you're ready, I'll be too.
      (they kiss)

    • Lucas: Haley, I'm not the bad guy here, ok? Peyton's just too... hard.
Haley: Unlike Brooke, who I understand is nice and easy.
Lucas: Excuse me! She makes me laugh. She's honest. She's not afraid to be herself, ok? Plus, she's not covered head to toe in issues.

    • Lucas: (to Brooke) Hey babe.
Skills: Hey Luke. So that means we're gonna get to see a little bit more of you, I mean you know since you got some time on your hands, right?
Brooke: Not if I have anything to say about it, boys.
Skills: See that is whack, dog. We win the game and he gets the girl.

    • Deb: Haley, I'm glad you're seeing Nathan. He's lucky to have someone like you.

    • Whitey: (to Nathan) Nice to see you vertical.

  • NOTES (6)

    • This is the second time the theme song "I Don't Wanna Be" is played during a scene. However, it's the first time we actually see song writer Gavin DeGraw playing it.

    • Although credited, Moira Kelly (Karen) doesn't appear in this episode.

    • On the season 1 DVD, there is a bonus video of Gavin Degraw singing Chariot in Karen's Cafe.
