  • Probably the least interesting episode of the sixth series, but very revealing.

We all remember the sixth series as a revolutionary one, because the episodes got longer, the plots more complex and more dramatic tension was introduced. This episode shows what can go wrong if these elements are not very well balanced. You have to admire John Sullivan that he dared to make an episode that ended with Del breaking down. But, unlike other emotional scenes, there was no laugh line to balance it. It's the plot that lets you down a bit. It feels like a half hour show stretched to 50 minutes. Some scenes, such as the one with Rodney, Cassandra and Albert discussing Del's predicament in the pub, bring nothing to the story, apart from some jokes. As such, I found it strange to read that the show actually overran its normal length. I presume Sullivan got caught up in the drama of the story and couldn't bring himself to cutting serious scenes.
