I can't think of only one other sitcom that moved from half an hour to one hour, and that's I Love Lucy (with the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour). The writer and the producers took a big risk when they changed the format, but it worked. John Sullivan could make even more complex plots, and didn't he do it well? At the same time he allowed his characters to get more of a personal life. Rodney's relationship with Cassandra starts here. It would become a touching love story, spread over several episodes.
The laughs keep coming at the expected rate and Sullivan used the yuppie culture as a target for social satire. At the same time, this episode gained fame for one of the best sight gags ever: Del falling through a gap in the bar.
Funny, well-crafted and touching.
