Opening Night

Show Summary

Opening Night is a performing arts TV series that showcases local Canadian artists and their talents in one-hour segments. Composer Michael Frost and TV personality Erin Kittery host the show, presented by the Canadian Broadcasting Company. The season opens with a screening of the documentary film Mozartballs by filmmaker, Larry Weinstein, a film that takes a look at people who obsess over with the famous composer. The song and dance team, Canticum Canticorum, appears in the next segment and Jeff Healey & Friends play some Classic jazz songs right after, performing live in front of the studio audience. Opening Night also screens concert films, including Paul Simon's concert at the Montréal International Jazz Festival and the Neville Brothers at the same venue, with guest performances from Canadians Sophie Milman and Sylvie Desgroseilliers. Dance enters the show's format when Kittery presents performing artist and choreographer, Roxana, who screens her new short film adapted from a Daniel Defoe novel.
