Football player Frank Gifford drops by the MacRoberts home and Duncan has instructed his boys to same no more than "hello" and "good-bye" to their guest. Higgins has to straighten out the resulting misunderstanding.
Joannie wants a part in an amateur production of Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Gondoliers". Higgins has been coaching her on her performance, but at the audition, the producer doesn't even let her finish her song.
With ten days until Duncan's birthday, the family plans a surprise party for him. They run into problems contacting the guests without Duncan finding out. Besides, Higgins has mailed out invitations without stamps on them.
Duncan and Alice MacRoberts differ from most couples in the suburbs; they have inherited a fussy British butler. In the premiere, the family's usual morning chaos is compounded by the arrival of a crate from Scotland.
