    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (1)

      • After struggling greatly over the last few days, Carolyn finally makes the decision to leave the group and go home. That leaves only Trish, Jake, John and Kimberly on the trek out of the wilds of Alaska.

    • QUOTES (7)

      • Jake: (at the railroad tracks) So the plan is, we're going to just park ourselves really close to the tracks so that we have no chance of missing it. We've got a white shirt out on a stick, and we're gonna be out there waving it around like crazy. If I have to, I'll lay on the tracks, because Lord knows, if it's not stopping, I'd rather just take my life.

      • Trish: (eating her first meal in three days) It's amazing how little sleep we get, and how uncomfortable it is, and still function. I don't think I slept more than an hour total last night. How long can the body survive like that- going on, like, hardly any sleep, hardly any food, a whole lot of work...
        Jake: We know twenty-eight days.

      • (as Jake prepares to go fishing)
Trish: (trying to find the silver lining after Carolyn leaves) Just think, we'll only have to share with four.
        Jake: That's true, true.
Trish: There's always a flip side.

      • Carolyn: Maybe tomorrow it will be over, but I think that's how I know that this is the time to go- it's because I don't care if tomorrow it's over. For me, today is over.

      • Carolyn: (as she waits for the S&R helicopter) I've had this journey, and ups and downs. I've failed a lot, but through my failures I've really learned.

      • Jake: (when Carolyn says she's pushing the button to leave) I'm going to put Carolyn in my Yukon pack and take her along, whether you like it or not- duct tape your mouth hole closed... (everyone, including Carolyn laughs)

      • Carolyn: Everyone has some sort of breaking point, some sort of Achilles' heel to them. You know, I don't know what it is for my teammates, but I know that they're all breaking down.

    • NOTES (2)

      • Jake says in an interview that after he got back home he would take his dog for a walk, see a squirrel or a pigeon and would actually get excited, thinking, "There's dinner!" He also says he'd wake up in the middle of the night, eat some candy bars, and then feel so guilty for not sharing his food with his "team" that he'd hide the wrappers.

      • The white haired man who is waiting at Talkeetna for Jake is his boyfriend Andrew Scott. Andrew had just himself returned from a trip overseas in Europe and Africa, and got home just in time to fly to Alaska to greet Jake on his return to civilization. At the wrap party, however, Andrew made the mistake of telling Jake, "I'm starving. I haven't eaten all day." Jake, when interviewed later, said that he wanted to jump over the table and smack him, and and told him, "I can't believe you just said that!"
