    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (1)

      • Dan comes very close to calling it quits in this episode after fainting from lack of food, coupled with the toll on his body of too much physical exertion, but after several days of rest and at least some food, he decides to continue for as long as possible.

    • QUOTES (8)

      • Dan: Look at that bug on my shoulder.
John: Eat it, it's good calories.
Carolyn (as Dan pops it into his mouth) Ew! No, you did not!
John: Yeah, there's nothing wrong with that.
Trish: Did you swallow it? (he opens his mouth to show that he did) That is so gnarly.
Dan: I just want to go on tomorrow, I'll eat anything.

      • Jake: (as they eat the porcupine's offal) If I was at home, I'm pretty sure I'd throw that up.
        Trish: (incredulously) What, this?
Jake: Yeah, like I don't think I could stomach that.
        Trish: This?!
Jake: Yeah. (she continues to stare in the disbelief of a starving woman) It's really good, eat up.

      • John: (after they kill the porcupine that Trish spotted) Good eyes, Trish.
Trish: I thought it was a furry rock!

      • Carolyn: (after Jake bags two ptarmigan) Jake, you're our hero!
        Jake: Thank you.
        Carolyn: Love you, man!
        Jake: Love you, too.

      • Dan: (after they return from hunting empty handed) And that's the big challenge, you know. It doesn't matter how bad you feel, you know, nature ain't going to stop, the cold weather's not going to stop, the rain's not going to stop 'cause you feel like crap. It's the point of survival, you've gotta suck it up, dig deep and do what you gotta do to live.

      • John: (as they hunt ptarmigan) I heard birds chirping. Let's come down here, try and flush it.
Trish: They're gophers, that's not birds! Ptarmigans are quiet.
John: We sure it's not ptarmigan? I hear it, right down here!
Trish: John, you're gonna chase sound, it's gophers!
John: I'll kill gopher too, man. I don't care!
        Trish: Hell, yeah.

      • Dan: (as they go another day without being able to hunt for food) Your body is a machine, you know- it needs fuel to survive.

      • Carolyn: There's six of us left, now, that are living together, and it's just amazing how we're kind of just falling into this routine. And, yeah, becoming a little machine! We no longer get to the cabin and have to be all disorganized and scatterbrained, and try to figure out what to do, we know exactly what to do.
