        Dave Thomas (1932–2002) was the founder and chief executive officer of Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers. From 1989 to 2002, he appeared in more than 800 Wendy's, more than any other person in television history. Dave opened the first Wendy's in 1969 in Columbus, Ohio. By the time of his death, there were over 6,000 Wendy's restaurants operating in North America.

        Dave was also a well-known philanthropist, founding the Dave Thomas Education Center in Coconut Creek, Florida, which offers GED classes to young adults. He had dropped out of high school, which he considered the greatest mistake of his life.

        Dave was adopted at six weeks of age and became a strong advocate for adoption, founding The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption in 1992. The Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding adoptive homes for children in North America's foster care system. It works to provide grants to adoption organizations to raise awareness and make adoption easier and more affordable.
