  • Wow

Another great OZ episode. I have to say, I can't get enough of this show! I don't know what I'll do when I'll watch all of it. Anyway. Let's see. Oh yeah. Keller! What an incredible turn-over! I wouldn't imagine him capable and doing such acts! I knew he had balls, but only when it camed for himself. I was always doubting about his goals and thoughts, but with what he had done for Becheer showed us he was true with his feelings for him. Keller was the only character at who I couldn't predict what he would do next. And that kiss between them at the end, was a little grose. From that I could have been left out.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • Ryan sings "An Irish Lullaby" a.k.a. "Too-ra Loo-ra Loo-ra" to Cyril.

    • Prisoner featured

Jia Kenmin, convicted February 2, 2001 possession and distribution of a controlled substance. Sentence: 15 years, up for parole in 5. (prisoner # 01J813)

    • When Alvarez is about to slash the throat of another Latino inmate, his left arm is initially on his target's torso, but in the next shot, Alvarez's arm is over the inmate's shoulder.

    • If you look very closely, throughout the entire episode, you can see Simon Adebisi in the background. But by this episode, he's supposed to be dead!

  • QUOTES (20)

    • Cloutier: Vern, I just heard about your son. I'm so sorry.

      Schillinger: Thank you, Reverend.

Cloutier: Why don't we pray together?

Schillinger: How does the quote go? "There is a time to be born,
a time to die, a time for every purpose under heaven?"

      Cloutier: Yes.

Schillinger: Well, the time for praying is over.

Cloutier: No, Vern, Jesus can comfort you.

      Schillinger: Not today.

    • Hill: (narrating) And then there's the Don Juan. You take a spring from the frame underneath your bed, uncoil it and then sharpen the edge. The wound itself is smaller, but goes much deeper. Like Don Juan, it penetrates.

    • Hill: (narrating) This shank is a classic. The bottom end of a toothbrush is carved down to its sharpest point, almost like an arrowhead. But the best part is, the weapon doesn't have to be concealed. It can be placed in a pocket, bristles showing, ready to be grabbed for action.

    • Hill: (narrating) This particular shank is called a Blunt. It's fairly standard. A prisoner palms a hunk of metal working in the shop, and then rubs the metal against a stone wall. In Oz, we got plenty of those, shaping it into a blade. The beauty of this baby is that it causes as much internal damage as possible.

    • Hill: (narrating) Now, this shank, which we call the Gillette Bayonette, was not designed to pierce, but to slice. The blade of a disposable razor is extracted from its plastic casing, and then attached to a pen or a pencil. Only, the danger with this sucker is... (cuts himself putting the shank together) you end up cutting yourself.

    • Beecher: Schillinger believed Clutier, he thinks I'm innocent, he even shook my hand.
Keller: Ah, you see, and I get a nice trip to Massachusetts, stand trial serve life in Cedar Junction, far from Schillinger's reach.
Beecher: There are Aryans in Massachusetts.
Keller: Half-assed Aryans. Besides, I think I've proven I'm pretty nimble when it comes to stayin' alive.

    • Schillinger: (To Beecher) I am sorry about your son.
Beecher: I'm sorry about yours, too. (They shake hands)

    • Beecher: Why are you doing this?
Keller: I would have thought that was fairly obvious.
      Beecher: Yeah.
Keller: Besides, I love the irony. I've gotten away with all of those murders I actually committed and here I am confessing to the one I'm innocent of.

    • Beecher: If I offer to die, maybe that'll end all this. Maybe he'll let my family be.
Keller: And what are you gonna get out of him, a written guarantee?

    • (Schillinger has just discovered that Hank's body has been found)
Robson: Your kid was involved in all kinds of shit. Drug deals, pimping. So there's any number of people who might want him dead.
Schillinger: This is you consoling me?

    • Mukada: Look, I didn't ask you here for a theological debate.
Cloutier: No, that's exactly why you asked me here. You're afraid of losing Kirk to Christ.
      Mukada: He already has Christ.
Cloutier: (points to crucifix on the wall) That is not Christ. That is showbiz on a stick.

    • Kirk: The Catholic Church is Satan's whore.

    • Allah: You know, I sat in Solitary plenty of hours, O'Reily. Had time to put two and two together. Shemin and Browne plus Keller and O'Reily equals me almost on Death Row.
O'Reily: Hmmm. Well, you added wrong there, cuz.
Allah: Well, addition never was my best subject. Always favoured subtraction. Let me see, Oz minus Keller and O'Reily equals justice.

    • Ryan: You can trust me, K-boy.
Keller: I got no other choice.

    • Redding: (to Supreme Allah) Takes a lot of balls to beat a fella in a wheelchair.

    • Hughes: I have nothing in common with you. I'm a political prisoner incarcerated by an unjust system.
Yood: No, son, you're nothing but a punk with bad aim.
Hughes: And you're a dead man.
      Yood: That a threat?
      Hughes: It ain't a valentine.

    • Yood: (to Hughes) When are you gonna accept the fact that you, me, and Johnny share a bond? We were all cops. Cops who, for one reason or another, copped out.

    • Said: (about Adebisi) His death was never my goal. I tried to save him. The son didn't want to be saved. He felt he knew what he needed from life. After he'd satisfied all of his appetites, realized that his desires were empty, that he had nothing, the only desire that he had left was to die.
Tidd: How do you know that?
Said: You only need to look into a man's face to see if his time has come.

    • Keller: I'll see ya
      Beecher: When?
Keller: Back here, or in heaven.
Beecher: You really think we're going to get into heaven?
Keller: Ah, you and me together. God doesn't have the balls to keep us out.

    • Hill: (narrating) The worst stab wound is the one to the heart. Sure, most people survive it, but the heart is never quite the same. There's always a scar, which is meant, I guess, to remind you that, even for a little while, someone made your heart beat faster. And that's a scar you can live with, proudly, all the days of your life.

  • NOTES (4)

    • Special thanks to Gordon Elliot, Whitney Allen, John Carpenter.

    • Crime Flashback

Jia Kenmin is arrested outside an Asian club.

    • Soon after Kirk Avecedo returned to the show, he got a role on "Third Watch", which is why Miguel went back to solitary in this episode and appeared only in recycled clips for the rest of the season.

    • -This was Christopher Meloni's last appearance until season 5. He was shooting episodes of Law and Order:SVU at the same time as 'Oz' and his schedule was such that he couldn't continue working on both shows. Tom Fontana wrote him out but left him an opening should he wish to return (which, it turns out, he did.)
