AIRED:
In the glamorous world of fashion modeling and corporate skulduggery, the focus is on a business tycoon and the head of a modeling agency, who shrewdly guide the careers to 16-year old models Taryn and Laurie. In the opener, Laurie's mother worries about letting her daughter become a model; and Taryn may lose a cosmetics contract owing to her prima-donna attitude and her demanding mother's behavior. Meanwhile, businessman David Fenton looks for a new face to save his floundering sportswear company, and his wife frets that no one will hire a 30-year old model.moreless

      • German episode title: "Laurie".

      • The theme tune to this episode was a version of 'Beat It' made popular by Michael Jackson. The theme only lasted for the first two episodes, an original theme and new title credits were then added.

      • Originally aired as a two-hour episode with Episode 2.

      • The series premiere aired opposite the 1984 Prime-Time Emmy Awards.

      • Other new characters introduced were Anne Schedeen as Sara Frank, Blair's district attorney friend and Roscoe Born as Mark Bailey, Sara's journalist boyfriend.

      • In the transition from TV-Movie to series, new characters were introduced in the series premiere. To pattern itself more like the popular prime-time soaps at the time, the series introduced a wealthy family, the Harpers, who became the main focus of the show- and not the teen models, who were the focus of the TV-Movie. Lloyd Bridges played Grant Harper, the patriarch of Harper Worldwide, an international conglomerate; Nancy Olson played Marjorie, his loving second wife; Dack Rambo played Wesley, Grant's troubled son from his first marriage; Mimi Rogers played Blair, Grant and Nancy's daughter, an over-the-hill 30-year old model; and Richard Beymer played Blair's husband David, an aspiring clothes designer. Although the character of Wesley appeared in the TV-Movie, his last name was changed from Miles to Harper in the series.

      • The series was based on a 1982 TV-Movie of the same name. The only original actor from the TV-Movie who appeared in the series is Jennifer Warren, who played the mother to aspiring model Laurie. Other roles were recast- Morgan Fairchild replaced Joan Collins as Racine, Dack Rambo replaced Marc Singer as Wesley, Terry Farrell replaced Alexandra Paul as Laurie, Nicollette Sheridan replaced Darryl Hannah as Taryn, John Bennett Perry replaced Craig T. Nelson as Michael and Brenda Vaccaro replaced Joan Hackett as Julia.
