  • Not my favorite episode at all, I found the woman to be a kooky old lady.

    6.0
Honestly, I love the Paranormal State television series but I didn't like this episode at all, it didn't scare me at all, one of the reasons why I watch Paranormal State in the first place is to be spooked a little. I just thought the lady was crazy who didn't have anything else to do. Though I did think the little comic strip piece was frightening and what it said on it but overall this was a bland, boring impartial episode. I couldn't even bear to watch the whole episode and usually I can't get enough of each episode of Paranormal State. Bottom Line: Not my favorite.moreless
  • Ryan and the team are called in to help when a woman with a strange connection to a spirit in a family home.

    9.0
Sandy contacts Ryan and the team when her family is considering selling their childhood home, leaving behind the spirit that the rest of her family fears, but she has a fond connection to.

As Ryan and the gang interview the family, it's clear that their impression of the spirit that shares their home isn't favorable. They relate tales of shuddering doorknobs and a closet that mysteriously opens, along with disembodied voices that frighten them with possible threats. Sandy on the other hand speaks of the spirit that she fondly calls Edward as though he was an old friend. She says that she wants to help him move on before the house is sold, although she seems to be quite hesitant about it at the same time. Ryan and the team find out more about the house's former residents and the man that could be the spirit that Sandy is in contact with. It was also revealed that the spirit gave Sandy a warning that reflected his manner of death.

The freaky moment came when they called in a sketch artist to draw Edward from Sandy's descriptions, and later on that night cameras installed in the house showed Sandy staying up in order to "correct" the sketch. It was more than slightly obsessive. Her brother even said that it was almost as if something was "making" her do it.

There were some strange noises that weren't explained during dead time, and Sandy kept acting as though Edward was nearby hiding.

In the end, Ryan told her that sometimes a spirit has such a close connection to a living person that they stay around because of that person. He convinced her that she had to be willing to let Edward go in order for him to be able to move on. Since the family was Catholic, they had the house blessed and encouraged him to move on. She found a more constructive way to keep his memory going by visiting his grave and working with his remaining family members to restore his final resting place.

I thought that this was a really interesting episode that featured the connections between the living and the dead, and how even positive connections can become negative if you don't learn to let go.moreless
