Episode Summary

January 3, 2012

Tony and Mike discuss the top sports stories including: their thoughts on the Colts firing Bill Polian and his son Chris Polian who was the general manager and if they deserved to be fired; their thoughts on the Chargers not firing Norv Turner and general manager AJ Smith, with the owner saying they give the Chargers the best chance to win; their thoughts on Jerry Jones saying that he doesn't think he should hire a general manager for the Cowboys, despite only one playoff win in the past fifteen years; their thoughts on the Packers beating the Lions 45-41, with Aaron Rodgers' back-up Matt Flynn throwing for over 400 yards and six touchdowns and if Flynn's performance in the game may have cost Aaron Rodgers some MVP votes; their thoughts on the Hawks beating the Heat 100-92 and Heat head coach Eric Spoelstra saying that they loss because the Hawks were playing a zone defense to the Heat's space-and-pace offense; their thoughts on Oklahoma State beating Stanford in the Fiesta Bowl 41-38 and who had the best performance in the game: Andrew Luck or Justin Blackmon; their thoughts on the New York Rangers coach John Tortorella saying that it seemed like NBC and the referees were trying to make the Winter Classic game between the Rangers and Flyers go into overtime and if he'll be fined by the NHL for his comments. Later Tony and Mike do Mail Time!

At least they did not rip on Tim Tebow too much like most of the ESPN shows did. But as a whole I found little to agree with by Michael and Tony in this program. I did limit my viewing choices to the same two that Wilbon did today though with the Sugar Bowl and the Hawks and Bulls game.

  • TRIVIA (0)

  • QUOTES (1)

    • Mike Wilbon: Tony, Aretha Franklin got engaged. You surprised she's tying the knot?
Tony Kornheiser: Yeah, we've only been to second base.

  • NOTES (1)

    • Happy Birthday: Eli Manning!
Happy Anniversary: Ohio State! In 2001 they won the NCAA National Football Championship over the University of Miami.
Happy Trails: Rashard Mendenhall and Ryan Clark! Mendenhall will miss the rest of the Steelers season with an ACL injury and Ryan Clark will miss the Steelers game against the Broncos, because of a sickle-cell trait that makes playing in high-altitudes life threatening.
