  • The End of an Era

The final montage of the season rang true as it sang, "For the times they are With all of the drama that the Braverman family has endured over the last 5 years, it seems almost strange that the season should end on such an upbeat, acoustic note.

While the feel-good feels are relatively new, other elements of the episode were quite familiar: Sarah in a new old relationship; someone possibly pregnant; and the entire clan breaking bread together.

It was good to see Ryan's familiar, albeit terribly scarred, face again. The Lord knows that Amber has made terrible choices in the past, but despite Ryan's problems, he wasn't one of them. Hopefully they get their happy ending by the series finale.

Haddie's return was slightly less welcome. In the previous 21 episodes this season she might have been mentioned by name once. It felt like she crawled out of a black hole right in time for fans to bid the family farewell. I understand she's in college (so is Drew) on the other side of the country, but she's been pretty much dead all year, so it was strange to see her again.

Here's to Joel and Julia reuniting, Max getting a girlfriend (or any kind of friend), the Gwen Chambers Academy, and a dramatic 6th season.moreless
  • Emotional Weekends

I have Hulu Plus so I got the episodes on the weekends. The episode where Julia and Joel announced their separation RUINED my weekend. Really I've never in my life had a show ruin my weekend but this show has often so mirrored my own life now or in the past. Such spot on acting and writing. How come Max has never gotten an emmy nomination? Or Victor or his sister? NBC has got to see that adults are addicted to this show. We talk about it. It's our life and it's nice to see how other people deal with the situation. To me, season 5 doesn't wrap up well. I keep thinking that Zeke and Camille will announce, "We made a This show is for a quiet massive audience (when you take in Hulu and DVR) that truly loves this show. I cried every episode this season.moreless
