Parkinson

Show Summary

Michael Parkinson was a showbiz veteran on BBC 1 hosting his talk show. After his first few series he had already interviewed many a star from the time and had built up a fan base. People liked his interviewing technique where he would take a step back and let the guests say what they wanted to say. Michael began to be unhappy, after his Saturday 9pm slot kept having to be changed because of the football, ITV decided to make him an offer he couldn't refuse, he would be able to continue his famous talk show, at his normal slot yet on ITV1, He agreed.

  • Like the show's host the format seems dated.

Michael Parkinson may have been popular in the 1970s but his current chat show has gone seriously downhill. His interview techniques are intrusive especially when he has US guests, who're obviously not accustomed to this style of interviewing. I know most of his guests are there to plug a book, film etc. but his personal questions are something one might endure on a psychiatrists couch not a chat show. On a funnier note his switch of channels has meant he can't cherry pick musical guests (i.e Jazz, his favourite) & backstage Mary (his accompanying wife) can't savour free flowing champagne in the green room.moreless
