A Parks and Recreation Community
NBC (ended 2015)

I hated this show when the first season started. At the time, I wasn't much of a fan of The Office, either, & I saw Parks & Recs as a second rate knock-off trying to cash in on the popularity of the "mockumentary" style.

I'm not saying I was wrong. I STILL think that first season was rocky. Leslie (& everyone else) is completely unlikable. I was hesitant to give it a second chance.

However, I'm glad I did. Season 2's Practice Date 100% changed my opinion of the show. it was hilarious, the characters really grabbed me, & Louis C.K. is the best. This is the first episode that credits Harris Wittels for the writing & I can't help but give him props for saving this show. And making it one of my favorite shows!

So what about you? Which episode made YOU a fan of Parks & Rec?

I watched the first episode or two and gave up on the show. It wasn't until the second season started and I started hearing really good things about it (mostly on tv.com) that I gave it another try. I'm glad I did. It's probably my favorite comedy still on the air.

I followed the exact same path on getting hooked on the show and I totally agree with the fact that the first season was not good TV.

The episode before "The Practice Date" is what convinced me they may have figured it out - S02E03 "Beauty Pageant" let them actually give Aziz a chance to play off of Leslie in a storyline and it just clicked.

S02E08 "Ron and Tammy" then solidified it as a must watch in my mind.

I love both those eps, too!

I started watching in the second season. I'm a bit of a completist, so I had to go back and watch all of season one, and you're right. It's just not as good. The biggest difference, I think, is how they treat Leslie Knope. She was too "Michael Scott" in the first season, but blossomed into the idealistic, high-strung public servant we've since come to love.

I agree. They started out trying to make Leslie a joke, but when they made her somebody who is 'really good at her job' it worked.

Totally. Everyone in the show stayed wacky, which is great! But she because a real person in Season 2 so we could like her more.
