On the day before Valentine's Day, Leslie arranges her traditional get-together with all of her female friends and family to have breakfast on a day they call "Galentine's Day" -- a sort of Valentine's Day, but just for the gals.
During this Galentine's Day breakfast, Leslie's mom retells a story from her youth, about when she was on vacation at a beach and the tide began to pull her out to sea. Just when she thought she was going to die, a strong pair of arms pulled her out of the water and onto a boat. After that, she and her rescuer enjoyed a brief but passionate affair before going their seperate ways. After hearing this story for the umpteenth time (and still loving it), Leslie regales some of the men in the office of her mother's trist. Inspired by the holiday, Justin proposes the idea of tracking this man down and reuniting then after 40 years. Leslie, the eternal romantic, agrees and Justin gets to work.
After a short bit of investigating, Justin finds Marlene's old lover, but when leslie and Justin go to his house with their proposal, they find that he isn't quite the courageous and manly stallion they had imagined.
