After inadvertantly setting up a "wedding ceremony" for a pair of penguins that she did not know were both male, Leslie unwillingly found herself as advocate for gay marriage. As she tried to come to terms with her newfound role as a civil rights leader, the more conservative elements of the community pointed out their opposition to her actions and demanded her resignation from the Parks and Recreations Department.

Before she was able to make a decision about Mark, Andy returns and tries to make ammends with Ann after a prolonged separation.
