Ed Begley Jr. guest-stars, and we get some more hilarious scenes among a great cast.

Party Down seems to have found a comfortable niche. Its cast meshes together so well that it feels like the show has been on for multiple seasons and dozens of episodes. Everyone feels like they know each other (well, I suppose they kind of do, seeing as there's a lot of Veronica Mars cast in this show).. but either way, I really felt for the first time that this cast is meshing perfectly with one another.

Martin Starr was hilarious in this episode, as was Jane Lynch as Constance. Watching Henry and Constance try not to laugh as Ron shows them the picture of his friend with no leg was awesome, and Martin's rating of Casey was good too. Some people may find the character of Romin to be slightly irritating, but I find him to be my favorite character. I liked Starr in Adventureland and I thought he played perfect dead-pan personality in Knocked Up as Martin, the guy with the beard. In this show, all of his strengths stand-out above everything else.

I thought there were plenty of funny moments, and I actually like the idea of the show taking place exclusively in the catering events. Shows like The Office used to focus on the professional side of everything, but now, we see Dwight's beet-farm, Michael's dinner parties at his condos, Pam at college.. it went from being about an office and the people who work in there to a show just about dysfunctional people who happen to work in an office. The Office ceased being as important as the people.. if that makes any sense at all. At least right now, we're seeing everything as it happens during the events and parties. We don't see Henry at home, or Romin hanging out being lonely at his apartment. We only see these people interacting at work, and in a way, they're their own dysfunctional family. It's entertaining.

I sort of went off on a tangent, but what I was basically trying to say is I enjoy the style that Party Down has created for itself. I worry that the show might become a little one-note unless they can find a way to spice it up a little bit, but I'm not too worried about it right now. I just want some good laughs, and they deliver more than enough.moreless

People have called Party Down the new Arrested Development. No, it is not.

But this was a step in the right direction and a vast improvement over the first two episodes. The dialogue was at a faster pace, but still not at the speed needed for this show to become a smash hit.

Due to its producers Party Down is able to reel in big name guest stars, and such was the case tonight with Ed Begley Jr. who was enjoyable as Bruce. The problem lies with Jane Lynch, Ryan Hansen and Martin Starr who are just insufferable (although I did like Roman's rant about Casey being a 6.819).

This show could be good, and that's why I plan to continue watching, but it has a long way to go.moreless
