Episode Summary

PA State Museum Levittown Exhibit
Curt Miner, Curator of Popular Culture at the State Museum of Pennsylvania, says, "Levittown, PA could very well stand as one of the Commonwealth's most important contributions to the 20th century." To this day, it enjoys the distinction of being the largest planned community built by a single builder in the United States. Levitt and Sons hoped to expand their Levittown, New York achievement by adding schools, churches, pools, and baseball fields to a Pennsylvania version in the late 1950s. The exhibit shows architectural drawings, maps, and building materials from the project. Another section of the exhibit explains post-war life from the perspective of Levittown's first generation of "crabgrass pioneers."moreless
