Arthur Parker is a sheet music salesman in the England of the nineteen thirties. He is also a romantic dreamer who finds his own personal reality in the lyrics of the songs which he hawks from town to town. Arthur expects life to be one long song, with none of the reality which gives life its contrasting dark side and ultimate richness and depth of purpose. But the dark side of life is waiting out there for Arthur Parker, just around the next corner.
