    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (2)

      • When Sue is making coffee, she's actually pouring coffee that's already been made back into the part of the coffee maker that holds the water.

      • Roy Mallard's reflection (he's wearing a face mask and goggles) is seen in the window of one of the doors to the clean room.

    • QUOTES (6)

      • (Lisa Bell's cellphone rings; the ringtone is the Overture to William Tell)
Roy Mallard: Is that William Tell?
Lisa Bell: No, it's just messages.

      • Mr Isamuzaki: (in Japanese) Did the company always specialize in thick film hybrids, or did they make a wider range of products initially?
Translator: (to Peter Wilson) ( something completely unintelligible )
Peter Wilson: Pardon? Sorry. I didn't quite understand that.
Translator: (to Mr Isamuzaki, in Japanese) He doesn't understand what you're talking about.
Mr Isamuzaki: (In Japanese) How do you mean?
Translator: (in Japanese) He says he doesn't understand what you're saying.
Mr Isamuzaki: (In Japanese) How long have they been making thick film hybrids?
Translator: (to Peter Wilson) ( something completely unintelligible )
Peter Wilson: Could you say that again, more slowly?
Translator: (in Japanese) He says you're talking too fast.
Mr Isamuzaki: (In Japanese, very slowly) How -- long -- have -- they -- been -- making -- thick -- film -- hybrids?

      • Roy Mallard: At 33, Lisa Bell is the youngest member of the management team ever to have been taken on as a woman.

After graduating with a geology degree from Lancaster University, she spent five years working on an oil rig; first of all off Norway and later - after severe weather, off Denmark.

      • Roy Mallard: Underneath the civilised veneer, a kind of 'ritual' ritual is being played out in which both men have their role to play. Although Dean is finding his role, which is to be made redundant, more difficult to grasp.

      • Roy Mallard: Being cruel to be kind is never easy - and since Peter isn't doing this to be kind, his task now of simply being cruel, is even more challenging.

      • Roy Mallard: So what does a typical day consist of for you?
Peter Wilson: Well there's really no such thing as a typical day.
Roy Mallard: Right, well what does an untypical day consist of?
