A solid use of another way in which the truth isn't what its originally perceived to be when Daniel Pierce is hired by an environmentalist to prove that the spreading neurological condition in a small town is the result of exposure to the chemicals from a nearby plant.

Several twist and turns later we learn to true cause of the condition (which is pretty good) and the murder (which isn't as interesting). We also get Daniel awkwardly broaching the subject of Kate's feelings towards him in the subplot of another solid episode.

  • Toxic relationships

    9.5
I really liked this episode because it focused on the characters. I like that Moretti and Pierce have at least now defined their relationship as not romantic at least not at this juncture. I don't think Pierce is ready for a real relationship because he is unable/unwilling to give up his imaginary relationship with Natalie. It is the reason that the real Caroline chose to leave. As to Donnie and Rachel, I do think Donnie wants Rachel back, and is jealous of her closeness to Daniel. I see Daniel more as a mentor to Rachel and Rachel as more of his handler and protector. He does need handling to make it in the real world. I think the scene where Lewicki and Rachel get drunk in the bar talking about what it is like to be in the Daniel Pierce club is spot on. I like that the series does focus more on Daniel's struggle to keep his insanity in check while solving crimes. I still think the writing could be better and it is not all that believable that someone with schizophrenia would look and act so normal under stress. There really should be more people challenging his opinions based on their biases toward mental illness, and less people being awed by his credentials, and Rachel and Lewicki should have more prominent roles as his champions. It should be played more like Gary in Alphas who is obviously brilliant but also obviously does not behave like a normal person and his fellow teammates who accommodate his idiosyncrasies but still consider him to be a valuable member of the team.moreless
