On paper this doesn't look like much of a winner in terms of a pilot. If "Perfect Strangers" had aired today in todays reality show, low attention span audience it would have failed. It's a great thing it aired when it did.

Louie Anderson or whoever they thought would be the lead role would have been a horrible choice. Mark Linn-Baker and Bronson Pinchot establish comic chemistry from the beginning.

Originally when Balki shows up, Larry says he's only going to be staying temporary but eventually Balki wins him over by working hard and being an all around decent person.

Mr. Twinkacetti (a name obviously meant to make fun of fat people-I wonder how they got away with this) is a slimeball who dislikes foreigners. Larry decides to take Balki to his job which is a big mistake as Balki gives everything away in Ritiz Discount Store for nothing.

Eventually, though Larry and Balki save their jobs. Again for a pilot it's not exactly spectacular but it has all those things that would make the show memorable from the jokes to the humanity of the characters and how you always root for these guys to make their dreams come true.moreless
