Two troubled women, Millie Crest and Fern Driscoll, switch identities. Millie, posing as Fern, stabs shady private eye Carl Davis in the arm in self-defense. Davis then turns up dead from poisoning of the stab wound to his arm. Millie then gets Perry to help her in return for a 38 cent retainer.moreless

    Like other Erle Stanley Gardner episodes,this
    is a stiff episode that is only average.
    Mildred Crest is going to be married---or
    at least,that's what she thinks.When her fiancee
    tells her about embezzling money in her account
    where they work,she is forced to leave town.She
    picks up Fern Driscoll(not really her name.).
    They drive,but "Fern" pulls a gun and they have
    an accident in which Fern miraculuosly survives.
    When she arrives in Los Angeles,she assumes the
    name of Fern Driscoll,but gets into trouble over
    that with a private investigator.Later,she stabs
    some intruder and when that private investigator
    dies of a stab wound,she is charged.Mason identifies the woman killed in the car accident as Brenda Scobey,who escaped from a girl's
    detention center.Fern Driscoll is a patient at
    a hospital with amnesia and when the senator's
    son jars her memory,she remembers again.Mildred
    is then cleared when the private investigator's
    wife confesses.
