  • One of the many plot twists to hit Hooterville in a sitcom that limped along like a wounded but worthy war horse.

    5.0
Steve falls for the youngest Bradley sister.

There's not a lot to say about "Petticoat Junction" except that it stands as a piece of history for sixties series TV with actress switches, tie-ins to "Green Acres" and connections to actors from other sitcoms - typical Henning "country comedy".

For me, this episode was somewhat startling because of the revelation that Steve the pilot (who had caused so many romantic palpitations in Hooterville since his crash) actually was in love with Betty Jo and not Billie Jo. This is revealed during a harrowing flight the couple take in Steve's plane. Soap opera replaces the antics of Uncle Joe for a time as the series moves towards the famous wedding of the two protagonists (and then, on to the loss of Kate and more substitutions). At least in this episode, Kate is around to give advice to her youngest daughter, the red-headed tomboy you had figured would be the last to fall in love. Seeing these episodes for the first time in the early 70s, it was weird, Betty Jo having been "feminized" during a trip abroad as told in the season opener.

Not that this makes for an outstanding television show, but at least there was a twist.moreless
