  • Notes

    • Beginning with this season, Petticoat Junction begins a gradual, but eventually drastic change in tone. With the new addition of Mike Minor as Steve and Meredith MacRae as the third Billie Jo; both parties were already well established singers, the series' focus begins to shift away from madcap slapstick comedy (characteristic of the early episodes, but especially in seasons 2 and 3) to more emphasis on music and singing. Also, part of the reason for the change is that Meredith, unlike Jeannine and maybe Gunilla (the first two Billie Jo's) did not perform physical comedy like her predecessors. Although there had been some occasional singing in the earlier seasons (most notably "The Ladybugs"), season 4 marks the true beginning of the "singing era" of Petticoat Junction. All three girls from this lineup of Meredith, Lori, and Linda were fine singers, as well as Mike and their talent was put to use much more often from this point on. Music and singing would be even more prominent in seasons 5,6, and 7 and the "slapstick" element was toned way down.
