Marlowe: (opening lines) There was a desert winf blowing that night. It was one of those hot dry Santa Anas that come down through the mountain passes and curl your hair and make your nerves jump and your sking itch. On nights like that every booze party ends in a fight. Meek little wives feel the edge of the carving knife and study their husbands' necks. Anything can happen. You can even get a full glass of beer at a cocktail lounge.
"Red Wind" was adapted as the first episode of the Philip Marlowe radio show. Starring Van Heflin as Marlowe, it aired on June 12, 1947.
Chandler originally published "Red Wind" in 1938.
Danny Glover played Philip Marlowe in an adaptation of "Red Wind" that appeared on Showtime's series Fallen Angels. The performance earned him a 1995 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama.
