This cartoon was first aired as part of episode 28 which featured the cartoons "Pinky & The Brain and... Larry" and "Where The Deer and The Mousealopes Play". The gag credit for episode 28 is: Introjection - Building someone elses qualities into your ego.
The theme song is different in this episode. Everytime after they sing "They're Pinky and the Brain" a voice chimes in "and Larry." This also happens at other points.
This episode is an homage to the comedy of the Three Stooges, with Brain in the role of Moe Howard, Pinky as Curly Howard, and Larry as, obviously, Larry Fine.
Zeppo: Hi, I'm Zeppo! The mouse put into the cage at the end is a nod to Zeppo Marx, a member of the famous comedy team The Marx Brothers.
Larry: I'm changing my name to Art and finding a new career!
This was a jab at the fact that folk singer Art Garfunkel's hair looks similar to the hair of the Three Stooges' Larry Fine. The following scene shows Larry with Paul Simon singing "The Smells of Loudness," a takeoff of Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence."
