  • The extremely long "dream act" in Shaw's play "Man And Superman" is usually omitted from stage productions (and the earlier TV production in this very series); it became a popular four-hander in its own right.moreless

"Don Juan In Hell" achieved a fame quite separate from its place as part of "Man And Superman" when Charles Laughton had the idea of touring in it in the 1950s. Laughton, who directed, cast himself as the Devil, and hired Charles Boyer, Agnes Moorehead and Cedric Hardwicke to take the other three roles. It was done as a dramatic reading, rather than a play, and was a great hit on the road. This production has the same idea, with its starry cast standing at lecterns and letting the words do a great deal of the work. But Norman Wright, an actor unknown in Britain, is not in it!moreless
