Ash and friends have arrived at a river just outside of Blackthorn City. They see a Dratini laying by the river. They go to have a closer look when all of sudden a Gyarados comes out of the water and attacks. A girl comes over and tells them that this is her Dratini. Her assistant also arrives and reveals her to be Clair, the Blackthorn Gym Leader. They are on their way to perform a annual tradition at a waterfall up the river, and Clair's Dratini is getting ready to shed its skin. Ash and friends decide to help her keep Dratini safe as they make their trip. Meanwhile, Team Rocket is planning on capturing Dratini for Giovanni.moreless

    Great episdoe! Dratinin makes it's debut here. But nevertheless, Team Rocket plans to steal Clair's Dratinisince the day Jessie wanted it (in Ditto's Mysterious Mansion). But she completely failed when Ash launched Thundebolt and Wobbuffet countered it and hit Clair. When it did, Dratini evolved into Dragonair just so it can save her. Jessie was mad and decided to steal it and sell it, but blasted off with Twister.

    • Jessie: Why is everyone so giggy about its evolving? It was much cuter, more lovable the other way! James: But it was more rarer than a Dratini. Meowth: The more rarer they are, the more dough those dragons bring in. Jessie: Fine, let's grab and sell that "pencil-neck," and I'll forget that I ever wanted a cute pet.
