Conclusion of Ash's Butterfree

"Bye Bye Butterfree"
Grade: A*
This episode was a really good one in which it did everything well. Filled with quite a big tearjerker for Pokemon, as well as alot of good laugh and quotes, Bye Bue Butterfree is the first time Ash releases a Pokemon, and how he realises he made the right choice in the end for it.
Finding their way to Saffron City, Ash, Brock, and Misty bump into a dead end cliff, which following the ridge should lead to Saffron City. Above them they notice a large group of Butterfree flying in the air, and Brock tells them its the time of where all Butterfree find a partner to mate with, as its mating season for them.
Ash, Brock, and Misty hire a hot-air balloon to follow the group of Butterfree in the sky, and Ash sends out his Butterfree to find a mate. Butterfree doesn't seem to be having any luck on finding one (with Brock saying that maybe their not "his type"), but Brock gets his eyes on another girl who releases her Butterfree and demands Ash's Butterfree to mate with hers. Nevertheless, Butterfree finds a Pink Butterfree which he is attracted to.
Butterfree tries to impress the Pink one by giving it some moves and dances, but the Pink Butterfree permanantly rejects him by slapping him on the face. Feeling depressed, Butterfree flies down into the forest, where Ash and the others catch up with it.
Ash, Brock, and Misty tell Butterfree that it should impress the Pink one by proving itself worthy of love, and Brock helps by giving it a scarf. Butterfree heads back to the Pink one and it still can't impress it. All of the sudden, a helicopter appears and it turns out to be Team Rocket.
Team Rocket as usual say their motto and capture all the Butterfree with a net. The only one they miss is Ash's Butterfree, but Ash's Butterfree attempts to stop the helicopter with its own attacks to prove its bravery to the Pink Butterfree. Nevertheless, he fails but Ash almost brings out Pidgeotto to stop it, but Misty warns him that Butterfree is using all its strength to win the Pink Butterfree's heart, and taking Pidgeotto out would break his heart for good. Ash's Butterfree decides to chase the helicopter, and the others follow.
Team Rocket place the Butterfree in a warehouse and are happy to have succeeded. Before they know it, Ash, Brock, and Misty break in, with their own little Team Rocket ripoff motto. Misty uses her Starmie to try and chase Team Rocket away, whilst Butterfree tries to break the net to release all the other Butterfree, including the Pink one. The Pink Butterfree starts to fall in love with Ash's Butterfree after realising how brave it is.
Just as the Pink Butterfree escapes, James tries to capture it, only to be knocked away by Ash's Butterfree. It's still not over though, as Team Rocket reattempt to capture all the Butterfree with their helicopter. Their plan is permanantly shortlived when Pikachu jumps on Butterfree, then the helicopter, shocking it until it explodes and sending them blasting off again.
The Pink Butterfree returns to Ash's Butterfree, performing its own mating dance in front to prove it wants to be with Ash's Butterfree. Ash's Butterfree accepts the dance and proposal to the Pink Butterfree.
Realising this is the end for Ash's Butterfree, Ash, Brock, and Misty approach a cliff and say their goodbye's to Butterfree and the Pink one. As both Butterfrees fly away into the sunset, Ash starts to have flashbacks of its life, originally catching it as a Caterpie, evolving all the way to Butterfree itself, and all the adventures its had. Ash wishes Butterfree good luck and cries a little, with Pikachu waving goodbye and crying the whole time too.
Overall, Bye Bye Butterfree is probably the first tearjerker episode of Pokemon, and overall it had everything and was a fitting conclusion to Ash's Butterfree. One of my favourite parts was the Team Rocket motto ripoff Ash, Brock, and Misty did lol. It's definatly one of my favourites and overall, Bye Bye Butterfree worked on all cylinders.moreless
