The trainer Ash fights on the Ice Field is called Pete Pebbleman. Also, only the final two matches of this battle are show, while only the final match is shown in Ash's battle on the Rock Field.
The show uses the terminology of "Hit Points" for the first and last time while Kingler is using a barrage of crabhammers on Cloyster.
The song "Viridian City" is played during the parade sequence.
When Ash was walking through the town, you can see a poster advertising for the movie "Pokémon In Love" with Psyduck and Wigglytuff on it. This was the movie that was the plot point in "Lights, Camera, Quack-tion" and "Go West Young Meowth".
Misty: Stuff your selfish little face after we get your Pokémon to the Pokémon Center! Ash: My face is little?
Misty: Ash! Shouldn't you be back at home watching over your Pokemon, or is your stomach more important than they are?! Ash: Hey, I was just going to get something to eat!
Brock: (After seeing Nurse Joy) That's the Nurse Joy from Pewter City! Misty: The Joys all look the same to me, how can you tell. Brock: What you're eyes don't see is very clear to me (Ash, Misty, and Pikachu look at him with narrowed eyes) Misty: Brock is a poet. I didn't know it
(Ash, Misty, and Brock are taken to Team Rocket's fake Pokémon Center) Brock: That's really weird. Ash: What's weird? Brock: Usually, when I see a Nursy Joy, I'm dizzy, acting crazy, and talking in a really goofy way. Misty: So what? That sounds like Ash all the time. Brock: Hmm, Maybe I'm just experiencing a temporary Nursy Joy overload. (Jessie and James reveal their true identities) Brock: See Ash, my "Eternal Nurse Joy Detection System" is always 100% accurate. Ash: Wow, that's awesome! Misty: (angrily) What're you two wasting time for? Go get the Pokémon back!
Ash: Look at all the Jennys. Misty: And all the Joys, too. Brock: (flushed) Ah, it doesn't get any better than this, Nurse Joys and Officer Jennys are everywhere! You're the Joy from Saffron City; you are the Celadon City Nursy Joy, remember me? Misty: Brock's going crazy. Ash: At least I'm not the only one who's going crazy.
Misty: Be careful Ash, all the food can make your belly as big as your head. Ash: Thanks Mist, but I can't help it. I've got all the food for free, that's 'cause she (restaurant manager) is a big fan of mine. Misty: Ash, everybody in the Pokémon League gets to eat here free.
