  • Thus the Earth shall turn to ash.

    7.5
After the first Pokmon movie, this is a bit of a disappointment.

The art it still very beautiful and detailed, but here they added computer animation to the mix, and I personally hate that, especially when put in the middle of traditional anime; it looks ugly and out of place, no way around it.

They didn't pay as much attention to detail in this one when it came to the plot, and it was a bit thinner than the first one. The beginning, which lay out the basis of the story, also seemed a little short/incomplete. It simply could have had... more in it.

Of course this movie also lacked the emotional charge of the first one. A decent movie, better than some of the episodes, but when it's put into comparison with something better, it is easy to see they could have put more effort into storytelling and add a little more depth.

Also, I've never really found the Pokmon's telepathic voices to fit them. I don't know why. They just seem odd, especially Lugia's in this one.

Not a bad movie, though. Very watchable.moreless

  • The 2nd TV movie, Pokemon 2000, is the best of the 10 TV movies they have done for this series so far, and the best storyline of all of them too.moreless

I know when I first watched this movie 8 years ago, I was still in middle school. I probably have yet to this day find a kid-friendly animated movie better than this one. Seeing so many legendary Pokemon from the 1st and 2nd seasons were really cool, along with Ash and Misty possibly starting a romantic relationship together. The whole second season to me had those two possibly getting hooked up for good, but as the rest of you Pokemanics know, that was not meant to be. I liked the part at the end where Ash is potentially suffering from hypothermia, and is still determined to get that sphere to the stone relic on the center island. Overall, it's the best Pokemon movie made so far, and one of the best made of all-time.moreless
  • This movie rocks

    10
Ash is the special chosen one selcted to save the world from destruction. This was the best of all the movies done. the first movie is the only other good one. but this one had everything that makes a good pokemon movie.

it had humor, action, and even some romance. nicely done, there will never be another like it.

the ash and misty romance element surprised me when i saw this, though i have always been a fan of the couple. it just made the film that much better.

and great lines such as "Prepare for more trouble than you've ever seen." "and make it double we're on the big screen." is one of the greatest jokes ever done. at least for this series.moreless
  • A good Pokemon Movie

    10
This Pokemon Movie is really good. I saw this movie in theaters. It was another pokemon movie that kept the sieries going. Lugia was introduced for the first time in this movie. This movie however is a little different from the cartoon. In the cartoon team rocket is known as the bad guys. this time team rocket had changed for a while and decided to help ash, Misty, and Tracy in this movie. I also noticed that brock was gone for a while in the second season and later returned. while brock was gone tracy took his place. In this movie when I saw it there was this one scene with brock running back and fourth and screeming. he was only in this movie for a split second. I remember when I first saw this movie I thought brock was no longer in the series and when I saw him in this movie I diddn't think it was really him at first. alot of my friends had also noticed the same thing. It was so wierd. This movie is really good and every pokemon fan out there should watch this movie at least ounce.moreless

    • Lugia: The song, the song has restored my strength. But it alone cannot bring harmony to the three waring ones.
      Ash: What do you mean?
Lugia: When the islands of fire, ice, and lightning are aligned, my song shall tame the beasts both above, and below the sea. But this can only come to pass with the help of the chosen one.
Ash: But what can I do that somebody else can't?
Lugia: Only in the hands of the true chosen one, will the ice sphere glow like the others, it's power awaken. (Lugia points to Ice Island, where Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres are fighting)
      Ash: I have to go...there?
Lugia: The choice is yours. You must go only where your heart leads.

    • Ash: I hope this ceremony doesn't come with...a funeral.

    • Jessie: He's always the hero.
      James: We're always the zeros.
Meowth: We could be heroes too if we ever caught a break.

    • Jessie: I'd hate to get burned by their fire.
James: I'd hate to get zapped by their lightning.
Meowth: I'd hate to get hit by...their droppings!

    • Lugia: This day,the one that can make all the difference is you.

    • James: If the legend is true, then all intelligent life will be destroyed.
      Jessie: That's right.
      James: And I'll be...
      Meowth: You will be fine.

    • The Prophecy:

Disturb not the harmony of fire, ice, and lightning.
Lest these titans wreak destruction, in the world in which they clash.
The water's great guardian shall rise to quell the fighting
But alone, his song shall fail, and the world will turn to Ash.
Oh, Chosen One, bring together all three.
Their treasures combined, tame, the Beast of the Sea.

    • Lawrence III: (picks up his Ancient Mew card) How it all began...and how it will all begin...again.

    • (falling out of sky)
Jessie: Think we did the right thing?
James: I know we did the right thing Jessie, and it feels great.
Jessie: Well, let's not say goodbye
      James: Let's just say
Meowth: We're gonna die (all three splash into the ocean)

    • Jessie: Prepare for more trouble than you've ever seen!
James: And make it double we're on the big screen!

    • Melody: What are you coming for?
Misty: To find Ash! And before you start saying it's because I secretly like him, don't because I don't!
Melody: Chill out. You sure are sensitive about someone who's not your boyfriend.
Misty: He's not my boyfriend! He's a boy, and he's a friend, but he's not my boyfriend!
Tracey: Hey, you talkin' about me?

    • Jessie: If that kid thinks we're here for trouble...
James: We're certainly going to burst his bubble!
      Jessie: Instead of causing tribulation
      James: We've undergone a transformation
Jessie: Though it's way outside our usual range.
James: We're going to do something nice for a change.
      Jessie: Aha! Jessie!
      James: James!
Jessie: Up till now, Team Rocket's been quite unscrupulous
James: being good guys for once would be super dupulous!
      Meowth: Dat's right!
Ash: What are they doing here?

    • Misty: Lets find Ash.
Melody: Yeah, and if he needs any help, his girlfriend's here.
      Misty: but I'm not...
Melody: Well, like you said, you are a girl and you are his friend, isn't that right?

    • Ash: I feel more like the frozen one!.

    • Slowking: I could use pants.

    • Melody: Take this (referring to the flute)
      Misty: Huh?
Melody: Legend or not, Ash can't do this alone. (Melody and Misty stare at each other, then Misty shakes her head)
Misty: You'll have to play Lugia's song. I'll go look for him, and Ash is never really alone 'cause he's got, me.

    • Jessie: So then we're not bad?
      James: That's good!
Meowth: What if the boss finds out?
      James: That's bad.
Jessie: We'll start our own team!
      James: That's good!
Meowth: But we got no money...
      James: That's bad.
Jessie: Then we'll just steal some!
James: That's good, or is that bad?

    • Jessie: We're slowing Lugia down, the three of us are too heavy.
      James: Let's try weight watchers.
Jessie: It's too late for that.
Meowth: I heard it's never too late if you really stick to the program!
