Episode Summary

Tentacool & Tentacruel
Still in Porta Vista, Ash, Misty, and Brock must wait for another boat to take them to their next destination. After witnessing a boat explosion, they use their pokémon to save the crew. They are thanked by the boat's owner, Nastina, who then asks them to exterminate all of the Tentacool who are harming the construction of her new underwater hotel. Misty refuses saying Nastina is doing all the harm and brags Ash and Brock out of there. Team Rocket then takes up Nastina's offer and once again they ultimately fail, and in the process cause a Tentacruel to grow to a enormous size. The water pokémon then invade the city with the goal of destroying all the humans, and it is up to Ash, Misty, Brock, and their new Horsea friend to save the residents.moreless

Who was the Episode MVP ?

  • Pretty good story line.

I thought that this episode of Pokémon had a pretty good story line, it wasn't the best, far from it, but it still was good. I'm kind of getting impatient though and want Ash to get back on his adventure, they sure do put in a lot of filler episodes between major installments, and some do really bad. This one wasn't bad by any means, instead it was actually one pretty good filler episode, I'm just glad that they actually put a good plot into one of these fillers for once. The ending of this episode gives me hope for Ash to get back on his adventure for another badge though because that's what the narrator said.moreless
  • A fine example on how kids can learn what terrorism is about.

Due to the lack of action and excitement from the last episode, this episode makes it up! Nastina is building a hotel, thus interfering Tentacool's territory. Planning to exterminate it, one of the Tentacool's evolve into a Tentacruel! Shocking yes?

How is this related to terrorism? Tentacool destroying the buildings in Porta Vista! Not that is a good thing, but that's where the action is! A bunch of the Tentacool's taking over Porta Vista and attempt to exterminate all human beings for invading its home is something to not miss! That's when Misty was brave enough to say to Tentacruel to end the massive "war" since it's Nastina's fault and not others.

I thought at first Tentacruel would ignore Misty and continue to cause destruction, but I'm glad that it was able to understand Misty. Heck, leave the job to the water Pokemon trainer?

The best laughable part: When Misty imitates Ash's post when he catches a new Pokemon. She did that just to spite him.moreless
  • Tentacool and Tentacruel!

This episode was great because Misty was able to catch Horsea ans tried to tell Tentacruel to stop with the disaster because it wasn't their fault that its territory was disturbed. Nastina was put blame as a result of that. But shamely, it's banned in the US due to 9/11 refernces and the Hurricane Katrina resemblence.
  • This episode is diferent from the others

This episode is good but is diferent from the others. First of all the best part of this episode is Horsea because I like Horsea is a good Pokémon and at one point of my like was one of my favorites. Tentacruel was too big and a little scary when I was younger because destroy all the buildings and you can see people using weapons against Tentacruel. Tentacool was a little scary too because Tentacool can control Meowth's mind and can use it for talk with the humans.

With all these things the episode still is good and has a good lesson at the end.moreless
  • Giant Tentacruel attacks a city

Ash and his friends have never had an adventure like this before, trying to stop a pokemon from destroying a city out of revenge for people destroying their homes! It turns out evil runs in the family of the Nastina crew with her wanting to build a hotel at whatever the cost. Angering Misty very much as well as the tentacool, they try to prevent this from happening. Team Rocket only ends up accedentilly supersizing a tentacruel causing it to go on a rampage throughout the city and using Meowth as a translator. Eventually Misty saves the day with a plead to tentacruel and a promise not to harm their territory again. Everyone is at piece....except Nastina who gets whacked away!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (3)

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Misty: Please stop Tentacruel! Please take them all back to the ocean!
      Ash and Brock: Misty!
Misty: Please listen Tentacruel! This is enough. We humans understand that we've hurt you! We won't destroy your homes anymore! We're sorry so please.

    • Misty: I'm sorry Horsea. You got beaten up and you did it all for us humans. Thank you.

    • Ash: When you talk about water pokémon its like you get a different personality.
Misty: I don't understand why you can't see their charm. Water pokémon are so beautiful and have such depth. Like that Horsea we saw it was a talented artist.
Ash: Art? You mean that ink it spit out of its mouth?

    • Misty: Tentacool are so squishy and nice when you hold them, and they call the pretty red spot on their heads the "Ruby of the Sea".
      Brock: Who calls it that?
Misty: Well I call it that, its my name for it.

    • Nastina: Isn't Nastina generous?
Jessie: Yes, we heard you the first time.

    • Ash: Hey! That's my pose!

  • NOTES (4)

    • In the dub, when Team Rocket first meet Nastina they talk about her horrible hair, and Nastina shoots them with the cannon. In the Japanese version, Jessie and James thought that she was Brutella from the previous episode, and Nastina felt insulted by being mistaken for her cousin. Due to "Beauty and The Beach" not airing until a few years after this episode, the scene was rewritten.

    • This episode was published in the book Pokémon Volume 8 "Return Of The Squirtle Squad".

    • Pokémon Debuts: Tentacool, Tentacruel, Horsea.

    • Who's That Pokemon: Horsea

    • Independence Day (1996)

The scene where the Tentacool uses Meowth as a translator is similar to a scene in the 1996 science-fiction movie Independence Day where an alien uses a scientist to communicate to the humans and has tentacle-like parts, similar to the Tentacool using Meowth to communicate to the humans, which also has tentacles.
