Team Rocket begin using their very first motto again with this episode. James's line "to unite all peoples within our nation" is changed to "to unite the people within our nation".

Jessie and James are revealed to have captured a Frillish and Amoonguss respectively.

The ending of this episode is similar to the ending of "Friends to the End", as it features a flashback of Ash's journey while he stands in the league stadium.

Ash places into the Top 8 of the Vertress Conference. This is the first time Ash has regressed in league placement as he placed into the Top 4 in the Sinnoh League's Lily of the Valley Conference.

The Vertress Conference arc ends with this episode. With just six episodes, it is the shortest league in the series so far, with all previous leagues being seven episodes long.

The scoreboard during Cameron and Virgil's battle reveals that Cameron owns a Watchog.

Cameron defeats Ash, eliminating Ash from the tournament and progressing him to the semi-finals. In the semi-finals Cameron loses to Virgil who then goes onto win the Vertress Conference.

Ash's Pignite is revealed to know Brick Break.

Cameron is revealed to own a Swanna. His Riolu also evolves into Lucario.

Cameron and Virgil advance to the Quarter-finals

Ash defeats Stephan, placing him into the Quarter Finals.

Ash and Cameron begin their quarter-final battle.

Cameron is revealed to have a Hydreigon.

It is revealed that Ash's Palpitoad has learned Sludge Wave, his Leavanny has learned X-Scissor and its ability is Swarm and his Krookodile is revealed to know Aerial Ace.

Stephan is revealed to have a Liepard.

Ash, Virgil, and Stephan all advance to the second round. They also, along with Cameron, advance to the third round. Ash and Stephan are matched up and begin their match.

Ash defeats Trip, advancing him to the qualifying rounds.

Bianca, Virgil, and Cameron all defeat their opponents and advance to the qualifying rounds. In the first round of the qualifying rounds Cameron defeats Bianca, advancing to the second round and eliminating Bianca.

The Vertress Conference starts in this episode.

Bianca, Cameron, and Virgil begin their preliminary round matches. Ash's preliminary match also begins, with him going up against Trip.
