Episode Summary

Dial M for Magic
The kids stop in a remote desert town for gas, but find only children living there, no adults. Further, the town appears to be haunted by evil spirits. A magician named Zoltan claims to have the power to fight them off, and he's taken the adults to help him, but Uncle Zachary tells the team that Zoltan is a fraud. It's up to them to find the missing townspeople, and to figure out what Zoltan is really up to and how his magic works.moreless

    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (9)

      • Just when you thought they'd finally fixed it! The closing credits incorrectly list Lisa Lindgren as "Linda Lindgren".

      • In the final scene, the comm room is situated on the wrong end of the Pole Position truck (or else the hallway is on the wrong side).

      • The townspeople are clean immediately after swimming through muddy water to reach Wheels' raft.

      • The train slows significantly when Zoltan is climbing aboard.

      • Thrashing his arm about was probably the worst thing for Dan to do when trying to get rid of the snake. Uncle Zachary identifies it as a
naja haje, or Egyptian cobra. These are highly poisonous and will attack humans if they feel threatened. (Dan is astonishingly lucky he didn't get bitten.) For the truly obsessed: The snake in the episode is a uniform dark green, but a real naja haje is blue/black with crossbands and a yellow underbelly.

      • One of the townspeople tells Zoltan the truck is almost full with gold, but it is only about half-full when Zoltan gets stuck.

      • Zoltan has his staff / snake again when the kids catch up to him (though it's possible he had two snakes, not just the one Pole Position caught).

      • When Roadie and Wheels go into hovercraft mode to pursue Zoltan, the animation for Roadie is very jerky.

      • In one shot of Roadie driving after Zoltan, there is no rain.

    • QUOTES (6)

    • NOTES (3)

      • This episode was included on the "Road Fever" compilation tape by Karl-Lorimar / Kideo Video.

      • For the truly obsessed: After hearing several characters say it, I'm fairly certain the name of the town given in this episode is Morseville, which is not on any map. However, there is a Mortsville, New Mexico. It's a tiny town in a remote area, and there's even a railroad track that runs by it.

      • This episode's title comes from the Alfred Hitchcock film "Dial M For Murder".
