Pompeii: Back From the Dead

Show Summary

Pompeii: Back From the Dead is the Discovery Channel documentary which tells the story of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and the destruction of Pompeii. Two millenia ago in 79AD, the giant Mount Vesuvius burst, raining fire, heat and ash on the Roman city of Pompeii. Pompeii was a city of 12,000 people, including Roman aristocrats and their slaves, who could earn their freedom and become wealthy merchants. The disastrous eruption quickly engulfed the city and the people there, but Discovery Channel has a new find that shows the history of the people and this event. During the eruption, 54 men, women and children too refuge in a cellar, hoping to survive the heat and ash. They also fell victim to the eruption, but their remains were better preserved than those elsewhere. Now using their bodies and forensic techniques, we can learn more about these people and the events which lead to their death. Find out why these people stayed in Pompeii, their origins, the treasures they held, their diets, sex lives and much more in the fascinating new investigation from Discovery Channel in Pompeii: Back From the Dead.moreless
