Poor Little Rich Girl: The Barbara Hutton Story

Show Summary

Poor Little Rich Girl: The Barbara Hutton Story is an NBC biographical drama, starring Farrah Fawcett as Barbara Hutton. To the American public during the Great Depression, Barbara Hutton had nothing to complain about. She was born into New York royalty. Her mother's side of the family owned the successful Woolworth stores, and her father co-founded a New York banking and stock brokerage firm. She had more money at her disposal than she could spend. She traveled the world and lived in the world's most elegant mansions, she attended the most glamorous parties, she knew the most powerful people. However, life for Barbara Hutton was never easy. Her mother committed suicide when Barbara was a child, and it was Barbara who found the body. Her wealth made her a target of media exploitation, and she became introverted and reclusive. She married and divorced seven times, mostly to men who pursued her for her wealth and status. Most of her husbands mis-treated her. She was beaten, stolen from, pushed towards drug abuse, and persuaded to forfeit her American citizenship. Through it all, the media never stopped hounding her and she never found happiness. In 1987, eight years after Hutton's death of a heart attack, NBC produced Poor Little Rich Girl: The Barbara Hutton Story to tell once and for all the tragic tale of the woman who had everything.moreless
