Popstars (Australia)

Show Summary

Welcome to Popstars (Australia). Until Australian Idol took over, Popstars was one of Australian tv's most popular shows. The Australian Popstars is the original version. While this show was in it's second season New Zealand, the USA and the UK created their own versions. Popstars is basically like Idol and X Factor except you can be in a singing group and even a band. The winner takes home a recording contract and in it's fourth and final season (2004) the winner/s also took home $100 000. In 2003 Popstars took a brake to try and improve it and make it better than Australian Idol. Unfortunately they were unsuccessful.

  • One of the worst music reality shows ever.

    2.0
Series after series of no talent with judges who know nothing about music. No surprise all of the winners careers did not last long as they were terrible and Idol proved how bad this series were. Amazingly they decided to make a live version of the show and that was a disaster as it was a poor attempt at trying to copy Idol.

Fortunately the series looks like it will never make a return, especially with channel 7 having so many much better reality shows. But if you haven't seen any episodes before then i suggest you should look elsewhere.moreless

The Australian version of Popstars was actually the original one which started in 2000. After 3 seasons Popstars was going downhill really quickly so the producers desided to give it a break and think of more ideas for the next season which was planned for 2004.

Well it came back in 2004 and was actually quite good, the only problem is that Australian Idol had just come out and that took over ratings of Popstars by 75%. It was a shame because unilke Australian Idol, you could have groups and it wasn\'t the same every season they kept on changing the rules every season. Also their were 5 judges so you will see more fights between the judges!moreless
