  • I don't mean painful in a bad way. I mean it in the best way possible.

The reason it's painful to watch is because it goes where no other series is willing to... deep into the world of discrimination and homophobia. Each character finds themselves being dicriminated against. Whether it be Sam for dating an african american, Brooke for dating a jew, Suger for being fat, Ms. Glass for being like a man, and Lily for wanting to help homosexuals. At times you feel uncomfortable watching like when Ms. Glass and Lily get attacked outside a gay/lesbian support center or when someone spray paints the name of this episode on Lily's locker. Everyone says how poigant Buffy is for having a lesbian character when no one mentions this episode of Popular. This goes where Buffy was too afraid. If you've ever been discriminated against then this is for you!
