  • Guess Who's Coming to Wreck Dinner

We finally get to see the beginnings of what Popular eventually became in the third episode, where Ryan Murphy fully explores the surrealism of high school and the graphic insanity of some of his characters.

Under Siege has Sam and Brooke preparing for the dinner between them and their parents, Josh being forced to quit the play, Mr Vincent resorting to drastic measures to keep Josh in his play and Lily refusing to participate in frog dissection.

The WB obviously wanted Popular to be more Dawson's than Heathers but this episode really unleashes all the brilliance that the show is capable of. The underground meeting between Sam and Mr Vincent is genius, as is the day-dream sequence where Lily imagines herself as Pam Grier look-a-like Foxy Free with Harrison and Carmen as her two kick-ass assistants, Lou Liberation and Sizzle Emancipation, respectively.

The bitching session between Sam and Brooke at the dinner table toward the end of the episode is Under Siege's highlight and the looks on the faces of Jane and Mike's faces are priceless! This episode features many memorable performances, from the always great like Leslie Grossman and Tammy Lynn Michaels to the before-she-was-famous Sandra Oh, who went on to bigger things like Sideways and Grey's Anatomy.

This is an excellent episode which really began to show off Popular's greatness.moreless

    • Mary Cherry: Why, if it isn't Lois Lane?
