Episode Summary

EDIT

Time's almost up for the Gold Ranger powers! With the Zeo Crystal and much of the Power Chamber's power devoted to stabilizing the Golden Power Staff, Tommy attempts to sneak the next candidate for becoming the Gold Ranger to the Power Chamber safely on foot, but the Machine Empire catches wind of this and attacks the defenseless pair of humans. King Mondo revives some old monsters, upgraded with impenetrable armor, though Trey has a few parting gifts for the Rangers to even the score. Meanwhile, Goldar & Rito regain their memories and powers, and set about enacting revenge on Bulk & Skull.

I hated that Billy couldn't be the Gold Ranger. It would have given the character something new, and he wouldn't have been the former Ranger and tech guy. I wondered like everyone else who it could be, probably some new person I wouldn't like.

But when I saw the person's profile on screen, I literally jumped out of my seat and yelled "JASON!" And as soon as he started fighting the Cogs and I heard the battle cries again, I started jumping up and down in glee. "JASON'S BACK!" The only possible exception to Billy getting the Gold powers was another old Ranger, but I hadn't wanted to give myself false hope.

Jason becomes the Gold Ranger and then ... that's it. He gets into one skirmish with Silo, but it is nothing more than a delaying tactic. Trey gives the team the Super Zeo Zords, and from there Jason isn't seen until the end of the episode. The end focus is given completely over to the new zords. I couldn't help laughing at SZZ4, which looked like it had a pingpong table as a chestplate. And SZZ1 & 2 doing a zord version of the Care Bear stare made me almost cringe.

Overall, I did like the episode. The return of Jason is awesome and the improved bad guys provides a threat, but Jason is underused and not allow to really prove how good he is and the monsters still get destroyed pretty easily.moreless

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • When Klank swings Orbus around to make Silo grow, he spins his whole body (like a shot putter) rather than just swinging Orbus on his chain like normal.

  • QUOTES (4)

    • Tommy: Well, buddy, how does it feel to be back?
Jason: It feels good, man. I mean, we did a lot of good peace conferences, but I'm gonna be honest with you. I was beginning to miss this place.
Tommy: Yeah, we missed you too.
(Tommy readies the punching bag, but Jason wants to say something first)
Jason: You know, there's, uh, there's something I want you to know, man.
      Tommy: What's up?
Jason: Leaving was a really tough decision for me, but I'll tell you what made it cool. I knew I was leaving the Rangers in good hands, I mean, with you as their leader.
      Tommy: Thanks.
Jason: But, I don't want you to think that I'm trying to, like, put things back to the way they were before I left.
Tommy: Listen, I mean, the Power Rangers are a team. No one's more or less important than anyone else.
      Jason: You're right, man.
      (They both chuckle)
Jason: It's good to be back, bro.

    • (Jason has become the Gold Ranger)
Zordon: Now Jason, your friends could use your help.
Jason: Right. It's been a long time, but...Back to action!
(Teleports out of the Power Chamber)

    • Tommy: It's really good to have you with us again, buddy.
Jason: It's good to be back, man. Just like old times.

    • Tommy: (Presenting a so-called "Mystery Man") The new Gold Ranger is standing right here. (Mystery Man reveals himself to be Jason)
